375ml. For my 600th rating I chose to drink this Trappist. I had to use my teeth to open it. It poured brown liquid with almost no head. There are some bits floating inside. Nose : fruity nose with tart and cooked cherries. Some wood and vanilla. Sip : medium body with low carbonation, oily texture. It strikes with sweet cherry and vanilla tart aromas. It develops more sweet and sour but finer notes of fruits and wood elements. The end is going more into dry wood and spices and sour fruits. The sweetness in this beer is strong but really well balanced and the beer hides well the alcohol content. Quite tasty.

Bottle, large sample. Hazy copper color, just some lacing. Aroma is a bit spicy, caramel, raisin, lots of red wine, oak wood. Bit sweet in taste, tannine bitterness, loads of red wine. Red wine blends quite nicely with the La Trappe Quad, and even is a bit dominant. Tasty.

I drank this beer right after the notorious Westvleteren 12. I must say I loved the La Trappe more.
Looks: Cloudy, copper/brownish colored, flat beer. Aroma: Interesting combination of flavours. Delicious, but hard to discribe. It’s taste was wineous with first the Malbec grapes, fallowed by a hint of oak and the original quad taste. All very subtile, but all in the degree of compliment to each other. In short phrases: Wine, oak, caramel, plum, raisin, milky, vanilla.

12.7 oz. bottle from Party Source at home from notes. Pours a hazy deep copper color with a thin creamy off white film. The nose has big ripe fruits, raisins, fig, caramel, brown sugar, oak tannins and a touch of the alcohol. The flavor is more fruits, raisins, fig, caramel, oak, more tannins and alcohol. The alcohol is warming, but nothing really pops as this is very flat.

37.5 cl cork and caged bottle: a gift from Rudy in De Bierboom, Brugge some years ago. Poured into a Westmalle chalice at home on 24th Sep 2014, the sediment and remains were dispensed into a 2006 ZBF tasting glass for examination and tasting later.
Very little covering on top of the pour, just a wisp and collar, the actual beer was almost hazy and a dark brown colour with a red hue.
The nose and taste however make up for the lack of ’looks’ the beer has. Wine esters with rich oak like aromas reach far into your senses, both the smell and mouth seem to blend into one luscious tasting brew, this is another winner in my eyes. Smooth, deep and rich body flavours, a true masterpiece of brewing and aging. Port and wine like in it’s aging, but still keeping it’s beer base and baring. Batch 3 still wins overall in my ratings, but this is very close in all aspects bar the head.
