skylercampbell (4), Portland, Oregon, USA does not count Jun 4, 2009 This is hands down the worst trappist beer. It tasted like alcohol and feet. This one needed more carbonation and greater complexity. A real letdown. LtDan (470), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA May 31, 2009 Appearance: Pours a cloudy plum color, letting a little bit of light through. On top is a 1/4 inch of white head.
Aroma: Belgian yeast, spices, bread.
Taste: Bread crust, fruity belgian yeast, dark fruits, spicy hops, and a little bit of bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Fizzy, and perfect thickness.
Overall: Very enjoyable, not overly complex, and would pair well with roasted meats. cosmicpolly (26), Bruges, Belgium May 31, 2009 Updated: Jun 18, 2009Starts with a nice head, but this increases quickly. Though I must say a rather nice head for a Dutch beer! The colour is lovely: amber and a bit hazy.
Flavor is fruity (little pinch of banana and other exotic sweet fruits), grains and alcohol. Nice beer! Parket (214), Bruges, Belgium May 31, 2009 bottle, nice but small stable white head, amber/dark orange colour, smell: alcohol, fruity. The beer gives you a warm feeling because the alcohol rate. But most important is the delicious fruity taste: bananas, pear, mango. Also notes from grain, yeast, alcohol. This may be the best Dutch beer? decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA May 28, 2009 Molasses like aroma with a hint of yeastiness. A more brown than orange pour with a fluffy off white head and lace.
An almost mediciny sweetness that lingers lightly on your mouth. Mild carbonation and medium bodied. Nice sipper. A tad boozy but not bad on that front. durhambeer (1186), Durham, USA May 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours clear deep amber with generous off-white head. Tons of fruits going on here... why name them all? Some banana, golden raisin, apple, pear, peach, as well as Belgian sugar and some yeast notes, which I wanted a bit more of. Still pretty damn tasty. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA May 24, 2009 On tap at La Trappe in SF (no relation). Reddish-brown color with an off-white head. Aroma of banana, fruity esters, and sweet malt. Flavor is complex with banana and other light fruits, sweet caramel malt, Belgian yeast, and spices. Smooth, creamy palate with medium-full body. Great stuff. Gary (352), Buckinghamshire, England May 23, 2009 A nice ,straight up rich and malty ,robust Belgian ale. Christ knows how the Belgians get anything constructive achieved with beerz such as this every where you turn. Loads of banana esters and their ’in house yeast character’ is very ’there’ as a signature. Earthy chocolate ..boozy edges.
