ben4321 (949), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 14, 2009 Location: 750 from a Grocery store in Manhattan, 3/14/09, under the label Koenigshoeven Quadrupel Trappist
Aroma: Fruity and bread, banana and some alcohol to the scent
Appearance: Orange. amber color, some sediment in it around the glass, full light brownhead
Flavor: Some fruit taste, plus lots of bread/malt flavors, unusual for a Quad in that sense
Palate: Decently full body, lots of carbination, Well balanced, but you can feel the alcohol
Overall Impression:
Not quite the fruit complexity you’d expect from a Quad, you can feel the German influence as you drink it. Very nice beer though. Good cold weather beer. avilla (12), , Italy Mar 10, 2009 Bottle@home. Poured in a trapist glass. Color is a dark orange with a thin white head. Aroma is banana, spices and alcohol. Flavor is sweet, banana again, spiced and warm. Heavy body, rich malty palate and a slight bitter finish. More similar to german doppelbocks or eisbocks than to a Trappist. Very good nightcap boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 7, 2009 [Vintage 2007] Tap @ Barleywine and Big Beer Fest... Poured a golden/orange with a white head. Bready and yeasty aroma. Lots of carbonation and a little dryness on the palate. A metallic alcohol influence on the flavors with an earthy fruit character-- like bananas and apple juice -- Ash and clove notes in the finish. Seemed like a darker tripel. jonno (538), Brisbane, Australia Mar 7, 2009 Brick solid. The most reliable and generally cheapest quad on the market. Does the trick every time. Great for those times that you are sick of Chimay Blue Enacoid90 (16), Rome, Italy Mar 6, 2009 The strongest of the special beers. Its flavor is full, mild and pleasantly bitter. Quadrupel is presently available in the autumn, is bottled by the year and is perfect company for those long winter evenings. Fred82 (343), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 4, 2009 50th rating ! 341ml bottle cellar temp, Medium head tat diminish fast. Pours red amber. Aroma is yeast, dark/dry fruits, alcohol and spices. Aroma is lovely. Taste is the same as aroma... some cherries hints also. Small bitternes on the finish along with warm alcohol. The alcohol content is discrete if it was not for its waming effet on the finish. Medium carbonation. Good mouthfeel. Taste could be more complex. Notes of fruits, malt. Taste develops after a few sips. It’s not very complex but extremely well balanced. Could drink this all day... if I were to stay sit of course ! Cavie (1300), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Mar 4, 2009 Has a very prominent head. Aroma consists of mainly alcohol. Very strong alcohol taste that has quite a kick to it. Don’t take large sips of this one. However it is an excellent quadrupel. f351c4v (404), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 3, 2009 Ah, reminds me of the old days. On tap, pours a clear, dark ruby color with a small, off white head. Very sweet aroma, light fruits, cherries, apples. Sitcky-sweet body, warming with a nutty caramel finish. Tasty.
