Pyobon (266), Sydney, Australia Aug 9, 2008 Big "stone" bottle. Dark red with off-white head. Complex aroma with yeast, fruits (pears) and caramel. Full body, almost oily, with strong carbonation. Beautiful complesx tast of malt and fruit with hints of yeast, caramel, alcohol and spice. Some bitterness, but not obviously hoppy. Not perfectly balanced, but an excellent beer.
DaMenace123 (250), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 8, 2008 Brown pour with big head leaving lots of lacing. Sweet yeast smell. Fairly typical quad taste of malt, caramel, yeast, dark fruit and some alcohol. Good. AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 7, 2008 Pours brown in color with a nice inch of head. Not as dark as my favorite quads, but stll smells good nonetheless. Taste is dark fruits, plum, and just a hint of what I’m wanting to call cola or root beer. Good amount of carbonation and decent mouthfeel. This is a good beer, but doesn’t compare to a Rochefort 10 or a Pannepot. I’ll stick to those. BeerBlitz (48), Roslyn, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 4, 2008 Big bottle shared with friends. Always a goodie! Reddish brown, clear pour that leaves a foamy white head that lingers. Sweet malt and alcoholic aroma. Taste is also sweet with some pepper. Medium, chalky body. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 3, 2008 Bottle shared at tasting. Thanks!
Pours a rich amber and is semi clear with no lasting head. Smell is toasty and raisin like with tart malt. Semi sweet and nicely flavored with a touch of alcohol showing, but 10% is still hidden well. Some caramel sweetness comes out as well. Medium bodied and pretty nice for the style, I thought. WallyWalrus (205), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Aug 3, 2008 On tap at the Bulldog NE. Pours a gorgeous ruby red with a thin, lacy white head. Aroma is full and malty, with loads of malt followed by lesser hints of dark fruit, apples, and cherries. Body is creamy and full, with an opening taste of malt, dark fruit, figs, and currants giving way to a long finish of warming alcohol and molasses. Certainly the mellowest of the quads I’ve ever had, though a little lacking in the big flavors as well. gary07734 (390), Tyne & Wear, England Aug 3, 2008 Updated: Aug 15, 2009Pour into trappist glass, quite light brown for a quad, sweet strong alcoholic aroma, taste is raisens, dried fruit, yeasty and sweet caramel.
