mansquito (819), Boston/Philadelphia, USA Jun 5, 2008 Almost without any head... what is there is bubbly and dissipates very quickly. Really nice dark amber color... but not like an amber ale... shinier. Really fruity, tart aroma. It is a pretty thick beer... actually you can tell just by looking at it. Lots of fruity tastes in there, but it isn’t too sweet like some strong Belgians. Slightly sour at the finish. A little bit bitter as well. No crappy aftertaste. Must be drank very slowly. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 4, 2008 Bottle courtesy of pepsican. Alcohol on the nose along with some sweet fruits. Amber orange body if glass held to light with white head. Medium sugar coated candy flavor the is alright with the alcohol present also. Sweetness lingers on the palate but a good sipping brew. lassem (296), Copenhagen, Denmark Jun 1, 2008 Clay Bottle - 50 cl. Hardly to believe that this beer holds 10 percent alcohol. Light brown colour with a huge white head. The nose is dominated of plums and brown sugar. The palste is round and surprisingly mild with hints of burned malts. The finish is long-lasting mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA May 30, 2008 11.2 oz. bottle poured into trappist glass- poured semi transparent dark ruby brown, very light carbonation, creamy bubbly off white head laced nicely along the sides. Aroma of bananas, plums, green pears, and cherries. Hits the mouth with a nicely defined medium body, fruit notes come through cleanly, a brief caramel note in the middle, finish is warming and has a nice alcohol feel. Not as complex as other quads, but does a great job of making you forget about the slapnuts that are trained to say, "Austin is cool... it’s cool because it’s Austin" everyday. ElGaucho56 (386), USA May 29, 2008 Pours a nice copper orange with a minor yet lasting creamy head. Nose has a banana liqueur character, along with a dry yeasty note and plenty of dark candi sugar. Very sweet with a lovely fullness, starts off fruity and with hints of cotton candy and cough syrup before moving to a warming, mildly medicinal herbal finish. A decent quad. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA May 27, 2008 Pours amber/copper with a light tan head. Aroma has strong elements of pear and apple, with notes of caramel, raisins, and cherries. Taste of candied sugar, toffee, and pear. Alcohol is very noticeable in the taste, and warming on the finish. This was a different quad than anything Ive ever tasted. Had it one night after my first Westy 12. Not a bad beer, but definitely suffers in the comparison. heavy (805), Split, Croatia May 27, 2008 25/02 0.33 l bottle from belgianshop.com. Poured copper orange body with medium yellow ocher head, much paler than I’ve expected. Quite nice aroma, predominately malty with scents of orange, caramel, flowers and bit coffee. Flavor was on bit lower level, not thick as it should be, bittersweet caramel, toffee and roasted sugar, sure not bad but, for the style simple and alcohol is warming pretty much. Finish of medium duration, sweet alcoholic caramel. Not bad beer, but I would prefer more complex and thicker body. Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia May 26, 2008 Bottle shared with and courtesy of heavy (thanks!) Possibly the lightest coloured quad I’ve had so far, with a dark amber body and a slightly off white head. A pungent malty nose, somewhat flowery. Some alcohol too and extremely weak hop. A tasty maltiness (grain, caramel...) starts everything and the alcohol is present again, providing a warming sensation. That’s pretty much it. The body is nice and slick, definitely tasty, but lacks complexity. I’d have it again.
