Bottle brigh brown and a bit greenish, 750 ml
Appearance: Pours tanned, caramel and a bit reddish. Dark amber in colour of body. Body looks hazy to murky from yeasts content, body is sparkling very gentle suggesting low carbonation level, size of body is medium, head colour is bright brown, creamy, cappuccino like, lacing is good, head is decreasing very slowly, head is medium- lasting, still is kept throughthe drinking a medium froth. Head consistancy is frothy. Density of the body is thick. the colour of the body is really amazing because you can see very instant palate of colours from yellow through orange than juicy red to dark brown, very mellow and switching fluently.
Aroma: Rasin, gingerbread, grapes, cherries, yeast, mild alcoholic nose, cognac, hops, grainy, bready (white bread), toffee, brown sugar, butter, cream, white wine, ginger, flowery, juicy, prune, barley malt, caramel, herbs, caffee late, aroma is very complex and quite strong, because some spices are present, a hint of yod.
Flavour: Front is strong in alcohol but not repulsive, rather inviting, you can feel thelcohol warmth and spices as the beer is getting warm you can distinguish nice, rounded bready (white bread) and grainy taste that is very distinguishable. You can feel fresh bread from the barley together with flour, slightly bitter, smooth and creamy in texture, a hint of brown sugar, alcohol is very well hidden, some hints of wheat, finish duration is long. Alcohol content to comparewith 10% of alcohol vol. of Grimbergen optimo Bruno is much better hidden, plums, prune apple, bread skin, alcoholic, sour bread, oats, orange. Taste is full and complex.
Palate: Body is medium to full, texture is creamy, carbonation is very soft and gentle, finish is moderate alcoholic, a bit salty.
SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA May 18, 2008 Pours a dark burnt amber with lots of sediment and a creamy off white head. Lots of nice lacing as the head slowly fades away. Great aromas of spice, citrus peel, banana, dark fruits, cherries, malt, yeast and some alcohol. Flavors are all there too, and then some. Too complex to try and distinguish all the notes going on, but overal very fruity and good. A bit of bitterness and alcohol bite on the finish. Great brew. yumyum (113), barrie, Ontario, Canada May 18, 2008 on tap, orangey colour with friuty nose. Fruitiness and spiciness carry over into the taste. Relatively complex beer, quite sweet and for the alcohol content quite easy to drink. Definitely a nice one. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA May 15, 2008 Konings Hoeven Label bottle, 750 from Total Wiine. This is a very complex and flavorful Quad. It pours a light amber color, with a nice off white head. It smells very heavily of spice, banana, alcohol and I swear there was bourbon smells, too. Tastes great, too. There were notes of fruit, banana, caramel, and again that lingering bourbon flavor, my bottle was aged a few months from when I bought it, though. Overall very good. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA May 11, 2008 Pours a medium dark reddish amber color. Aromas of dark fruit, caramel, and some spice. Flavors are sour cherries, and some spice. Alcohol really dominates. Yves (989), Beerse, Belgium May 10, 2008 Darker amber coloured beer nice off white head. Malty and hoppy aroma. Ending is bitter and alcoholic.
