BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA Jan 5, 2008 750ml brown bottle (labeled Konings Hoeven Quadrupel) from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours an amber red body thats translucent but slightly hazy with little head to speak of. Smells fruity - apple, grape, citrus. Tastes fruity - apple, grape, citrus - with a fair amount of pith and hints of malt. Some alcohol is noticeable, but not as bad as it could. Surprisingly flat and aqueous in mouthfeel. Somewhat one dimensional. Tasty enough, but not as tasty as some of its Belgian cousins. Not that impressed with this one, I’m afraid... This may benefit from some aging, but for now, I’m just not feeling it... ukoolaid (572), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA Jan 5, 2008 On tap at Anam Cara (Monk’s Cell). Pours a cloudy reddish brown with minimal foamy head. Sweet yeasty aroma with dried fruit. Candy sugar and fruit hide the alcohol pretty well. LiebeBier (788), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Jan 5, 2008 750 mL Bottle - A substantial amount of fruit in the aroma and flavor. Alcohol is very well hidden in this creamy sweet malty beer. Excellent KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Jan 5, 2008 [Draught vintage 2005 at Ølbaren] Pours clear amber with tiny off white head. Aroma has overripe fruits, toffee. Flavour is sweet with spices, yeast and and the alcohol kicks in at the end. Vinous and pretty well balanced.
NMC01 (58), Denmark Jan 5, 2008 Updated: Dec 21, 2008Soft and full bodied ale which consists of a very complex yeasty and malty picture with a caramel sweetness and an accurate ligh hoppy ending. This quadrupel has a warm depth and is very delicious! radagast83 (1272), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jan 5, 2008 Bottle as " Koningshoeven Quadrupel Trappist Ale". Pours a dark reddish color, with a thin quickly receeding off-white head. Aroma is that of any typical quad (meaning good) and the flavor was about the same. Was impressed that the alcohol was hidden quite well. glennmastrange (805), hobe sound, Florida, USA Jan 2, 2008 Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of dark bread, roasted and caramel, light herbs for the hops, and moderate yeast notes of earth and dough, with toffee, alcohol and solvent. Head is small, wispy white, with fair lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is clear flat copper. Flavor starts heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet, lightly bitter and a touch sour. Palate is medium, creamy and chewy and has a very soft carbonation. It finishes lightly alcoholic. Slightly out of balance flavors but mostly a very good Quadrupel. emerica56 (575), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Dec 31, 2007 Dumped this into a trapist glass and a nice golden sudsy head.It leaves a ring of laceing all along the sides of the glass. The color is very cloudy due to all of the yeast particles that are in it making it a cloudy redish orange. As i put my nose to it the aroma is so strong with a lot of dark fruits and bitter hops and malt. As i sip on it the flavor is very creamy and sweet with a bitter after taste of rum and candy. There is alot of complexity to this with a varity of fruits and candy malt.
