Tasted 22. Nov -07. A lot of smell with some kind of sweetness, maybe honey and port wine, not Sure. Tasted a lot of nuts in it. A bit to sweet and overwhelming alcohol for me.

Bottle at Fonnefeesten Lokeren. My first La Trappe. Overwhelming aroma, very complex but in harmony. Fruit & spices, sugar and malt. Full body, average carbonation. Overall a great Abt.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a warm amber with a medium white head and a sweet, fruity nose. Taste is complex sweet, with alcohol, fresh fruit, caramel, brown sugar and malt. Nice sweet finish, make this a very good beer!

I got it under Koningshoeven Qudrupel. It’s just plain excellent. I’ve been trying a number of Belgium beers for some time now (if I could get around to reviewing them all) and so many lately have reminded me of Delirium (either Tremens or Nocturnum) lately I’m almost fed up. Don’t get me wrong. I love Delirium, but I can’t help but wonder why its generally rated so much lower than so many Belgians that taste just like it. Maybe it’s the pink elephant.... In any case, this one is very noteworthy to me because it does NOT taste like Delirium to me. It still has that distinctly Belgium flavor, but I find I like it better than both Corsendonk (another fine one that does NOT taste like Delirium) and possibly even Duvel (might need to compare a bit before I make up my mind). In any case, it’s excellent.

500 ml bottle. Hazy brown/amber color. Big, off-white head. Fruity, sweet malt, alcohol. Very balanced beer. Mmm.

Hazy amber with quickly diminishing large white head, leaving hardly any lacing. Apple aroma, taste has some complexity with ripe fruit, spice, and some alcohol warmth. Some dry, bitterness to finish, thought it was an enjoyable brew.

Heavy hoppy aroma. Huge frothy head. Good lacing Mostly lasting longevity. Clear brown body. Light bitter initial flavor, with a long finish duration. Medium to full palate and a creamy texture.

I previously bought a bottle of this beer almost two years ago, but returned it the next day because it had a weird, almost corked flavor to it so I just assume the cork had failed. Fast forward to this weekend, when I opened the replacement. Same thing. This one wasnt flat like the previous sample. Pours out a dark orange color with a tan head on it. Lots of carbonation bubbles in it. Smells sweet and fruity and has some hints of caramel and sugars in it. Tastes like a piece of a fucking oak tree and that really killed the beer for me. I guess this is the taste that the brewers are desiring, but if I want to eat a tree, Ill go to the back yard and ingest one. I dont want my beer to taste like it. Its not even the oak taste like that comes with a barrel aged beer, it tastes like straight up liquid tree. Thank god I havent seen this in the stores recently. This beer must be amazing on tap to get a score of 3.8. Thank God I have no more of these in my house.
