beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA Jul 10, 2007 750 ML Bottle-Poured a copper color w/a slight tan head & good lacing. Spiced aroma. Not as sweet as other Latrappe samples, spicy w/some pepper & colander. Kind of a dry, tart taste, maybe a little bit of peach. Wasn’t bad, but it was my least favorite of the 4 brews sampled during a July 4th Vertical. Long dry finish. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 7, 2007 Updated: Jan 25, 2009Bomber; looks like ’06 vintage from the date stamp. Copper-mahogany with a small, but persistent and creamy cap that leaves frosty lace. Spicy, earthy chocolate, caramel, and vinous aromas. Chocolate-caramel apple initial flavors turn to strong apple-grape with slight spices and dryish white wine. Palate is light-medium; smooth with a nice hint of dryness and a slight alcohol tingle. Purt near to cloying, even for someone who loves malty-sweet beer. Still it’s a delicate fruit sweetness; could easily be mistaken for a sweet white wine. Not really a favorite, but a unique beer and glad I tried it. Kirill (264), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 7, 2007 bottle in amsterdam. very fruity flavor and copper translucent appearance. highly wooden finish comes through when drunk along with bittersweet flavors. good quadrupel, a change from the coffee salt belgium ones BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 6, 2007 While I thought the mouthfeel of this beer was quite good, I was not a huge fan of its sour grape and champagne flavor. It is lightly sweet and tastes a bit like dried fruit, which may have been what bothered me (I’m not a fan). Aroma was a bit of a candied fruit sugariness. I had this beer on draft, and it was not unattractive in its martini-like branded glassware - a hazy red color with a white scummy head of inconsistently sized tiny bubbles. Still, i was not a huge fan of this beer. epassa (105), Sao Paulo, Brazil Jul 3, 2007 Ruby color, with a nice head. Aroma of malt, dried fruits, toffee, yeast, chocolate, pepper. Palate of malt, toffee, chocolate, spice, hops, alcohol, plums. Great beer! KidA (19), Morristown, New Jersey, USA Jul 1, 2007 White wine and chemical scent-no head, no carbonation. Looks slightly murky with more yeast floating in the first pour than the rest for some reason. Sweet, sour, syrupy with orange and bandaids as the prominent identifiable tastes. Thin for a quad and almost entirely flat.
Might have been a bad bottle. SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Jul 1, 2007 A big and heavy quad with a dense brown appearance. Covered with a creamy topping of film and lively carbonation. Aroma is refreshing Belgian yeast that’s mild and subtle.
The flavor is sticky, spicy and sweet yeast with big malt but yet this is the most tamed quadruple I can think of. So easy going and strong but at the same time packs a punch of power and feels heavy. I really loved this stuff.
smhncabot (310), Cabot, Arkansas, USA Jun 30, 2007 pours clear mahogany with thin khaki head. aroma is spicy caramel and toffee with good amounts of ripe red fruit (large amounts of alc). taste is sweet, sweet caramel toffee with big fruit and slight roast. good amount of banana and prune. finish is slightly bitter with a mineral character. tasty stuff but not the most complex.
