alainbr (11), Paris, France May 27, 2007 I thought that only belgians could make good trappist beer, but during a trip to the Netherlands I tasted this beer and it was very good. The colour is amber and the taste is rich and complex. badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA May 25, 2007 On tap at Stone. Clear golden reddish brown with fluffy white head. Aroma of over ripe apples, grapes, alcohol, and some wine characteristics. Good smooth buttery palate. Initial taste of caramel transitioning to a fruity taste and finishing slightly bitter. kapusta (84), Dover, Delaware, USA May 24, 2007 Picked this up in Tilburg, Holland. The abbey was closed to visitors on Monday’s (tastings on Tuesday’s). I bought this as La Trappe, and the label is different. Regardless, I assume the tste is the same. Sweet/estery aroma of bananas and pears. Tasted the same:pears, with a clove/banana aftertaste. Nice helping of alcohol. Nice dark/hazy orange color. In my opnion, the only downfall was that this was not "full" enough to be rated higher. Very good jed314 (6), Sedro-Woolley, Washington, USA does not count May 23, 2007 Labeled as Koningshoeven quad. Poured burnt orange color with large head. It was a smooth ride of ripe banana, raisin, and caramel flavors with the ever so subtle hint of sherry. Body was not quite as full as other quads, but the alcohol was well masked. a delicious beer. lucien (42), Argentina May 23, 2007 Bottle. Oveja Negra pub, Bs.As. Lovely red/ brown colour. Good tan head. Aroma is sweet, notes of caramel and spicy yeast. Taste developes a lot of lavours: sweet fruits, berries, a little tartar, apples, vainilla... And bready malt.
Good bitterness and alcholic in the mouth but conserves all its flavours. Excellent carbonatation. so hard to balance... mkofron (155), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 18, 2007 750ml bottled labeled as Koningshoeven Quadrupel. Amber, medium lasting tan head. Sweet fruity aroma. Enjoyable beer. RollinHard (748), Fort Worth, Texas, USA May 12, 2007 Good red-brown appearance with a substantial head. Smells spicy and fruity with apples, bananas, light cinnemon, raisins, and rum. Flavor is equally fruity with some pear, apple, caramel, raisins, and cinnemon, with a dry yeasty character tying it all together. Dried fruit on the finish, continues to taste dry on the throat with a bitter well-rounded dark fruit taste. Some wood and light hops. Creamy mouthfeel, but it’s not very thick, and the carbonation is higher than I’d like. Decent beer, worth respect, but it’s just too damn fruity for to think it’s really good. oberabcbbsok (686), Hoboken, Belgium May 9, 2007 I know the trappists very good. And the quadrippel are among the best beers in the world. You find it in this very nice and ballanced beer. A good tast and smells like wow. A must for every beer taster. Drunk it as well on draft as from bottle, also taste old versions of it and they are still very nice
