COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Quadrupel is La Trappe’s heaviest ale with a stunning amber colour. Its warm and intense flavour is rich and finely balanced. Malty sweet, slightly burnt, and pleasantly bitter with a sweet aftertaste. Quadrupel continues to ferment after bottling and offers aromas of banana, almond, vanilla and others.

Pours brownish, cloudy with about a inch of head. Aroma is sweet malt, banana/peaches, it is on the fruity side. Taste is excellent, sweet malt with roasted hints and with slight bitterness lurking underneath. Also flavor of bananas, sugar and yeast. Finish is medium flavor of malt and sugar. Carbonation is high enough to bite a bit that lasts into the finish. Full bodied, rough on the palate but still nice. Overall a very decent beer, but heavy on the stomach.

Appearance: Brown-Reddish color with a light fading off-white head with some lacing. Aroma is sweat with dried fruit, yeast, caramel, and vanilla. Sweet flavor, mostly dried fruit as well as spices and some light bitterness. Ending is slightly alcoholic and a bit bitter. The bitterness helps but it feels just a little hot. I think it’s a bit better when it warms up, oddly.

Amber colour, moderate thin head. Weak lacing. Aroma of roast acids, dry fruit, bread, champaigne. Medium to full body. Oily texture. Medium sweet taste that reveals notes of portwine, sugar syrup, dry fruit (prune, raisins), roasted malts. Some alcohol. Champaigne again. A hint of bitterness in ending. Roasty aftertaste. Nice

Slightly cloudy orange body, big beige head. Aroma is sweet, malt, yeast, spices, dried fruits and liquorice notes. Flavour is quite sweet and with more liquorice. It hide the spices, the fruity flavours are still present. Long warm sweet finish with fruity notes. Full body and medium carbo. Quite good but the alcohol is hiding most of the complexity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Utterly delicious. Unlike most quads, this is not dark brown, but essentially a red/orange color - lovely. This taste is just lovely although subdued. No strong flavors one way or the other, but that’s just fine as far as I’m concerned. I would all the flavors banana+raspberry, and extremely subtle spice and very subtle vinous. I slept on this quad a little. I had it about 3 years ago, not thinking much about it, one way or the other, but this is exceptional in its subtlety. I would rate this slightly ahead of St. Bernardus abt 12, but just a hint behind the Rochefort quad. For the record I had a bomber dated B15 and side by side a regular size bottle dated K13. So the bottle was about a year and a half old. I would say this beer aged a year is a little better than when it is fresh. I would love to have about 5 or 6 versions of this beer aged according to 6 month intervals. Regardless, this is excellent. This beer does not get the respect it deserves. It’s better than St. Bernardus by a hair - more subtle.
