COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Quadrupel is La Trappeís heaviest ale with a stunning amber colour. Its warm and intense flavour is rich and finely balanced. Malty sweet, slightly burnt, and pleasantly bitter with a sweet aftertaste. Quadrupel continues to ferment after bottling and offers aromas of banana, almond, vanilla and others.

Pours clear deep amber with one finger of off-white head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, moderate lacing. (4/5) Nose is dark toffee/caramel, raisins and dark fruit, banana, slight spice. (8/10) Taste is moderate sweet and peppery, finishing mild bitter. (9/10) Medium body, moderate sustained carbonation, lingering tart bitter finish with distinct alcohol warming. (5/5) Excellent quadrupel. The ABV isnít even close to hidden, but it works well with the dark fruitcake flavours on the nose and tongue. The body is definitely on the light side of medium, I think partly due to the moderate sustained carbonation, and partly due to the sharp edge of the alcohol on the tongue. Not quite as mellow and perfect as the Westvleteren XII, the St. Bernardus Abt 12 or the Rochefort 10, perhaps (nor as interesting as Three Philosophers) but a solid performer regardless. (17/20)

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 16E). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 15:04 K24C14. AROMA: sweet malty profile with strong spicy and peppery alcohol notes. APPEARANCE: deep ambar and clear, with a somewhat moussy, ivory head with good retention and lacing. TASTE: sweet malt profile with peppery and perfumy alcohols. medium-low biterness with a somewhat dry finish. PALATE: medium-thin body with moderate carbonation. warming alcohol sensation. OVERALL: a strong belgian style ale with peppery aromas and flavors and not very much else.

Seriously good, this could become my new blood group. Beautiful dark brown smokey colour and taste, thick beige head with strong but pleasant yeast taste that dwindles. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33cl bottle at home. It pours a dark/red amber colour, with a decent and persistent white head. Aroma is strong raisins, dark fruits, malts and some bananas. Taste is dark fruits, raisins and plums, sweet malts, Belgian yeast, very strong toffee notes and a strong bittersweet flavour throughout. It is full-bodied with decent carbonation and a little alcohol warmth. This is probably one of the best "Trappist" beers out there. Itís a very complex beer.

Świetne piwo, alkohol ładnie ukryty, w aromacie ciemne winogrona, śliwki, wiśnie w spirytusie, rodzynki, lekkie goździki i zapachy fenolowe (przypomina dobre czerwone wino). Czyli gęste, treściwe, średnio nasycone piwo o zdecydowanym zapachu i smaku.

Reddish/brown pour with little head. Cascading aromas of booze, raisins, wood, fig, astringent. Full bodied, sticky on the lips, with a massive flavour and aroma profile.

On tap @ Cloud Cult show. Nice Belgian aroma. Taste is Belgian, but dark like the appearance. Has a deep, woody, rye, sour, cracker base to is that is really solid for this style. You could tell me this was 3% ABV and Iíd believe you. Super good stuff.

Regular small 330ml bottle (not the one in ceramic, like the picture) poured in a Chimay chalice. I was missing to review this one. La Trappe is my "less favorite" Trappist, nevertheless, itís not bad at all, of course. Moreover, this one, is a Quad. A: Beautiful amber-little-cloudy color. Really. However, filtered, I guess. Which, somehow, disappoints a bit. Good carbonation, as expected. It creates a big lacing and foamy head S: Nice fruity smell: Dark fruits (prunes are evident). Fresh malts T: Complex taste: Sweet candy (or toffee) is the first to be noted. Followed by dark Fruits. Bitterness and alcohol in the end D: Reasonable. Balanced sweet-bitterness. However, the high ABV can be noticed here. Recommended anyway. This is a classic Trappist, after all [ BA Review @ 2/4/2010 ]

My first trappist quad. Blackcurrant-like dark red with too little foam, but a very nice aroma where a varnish of red berries bathes in prunes, alcohol and some vinegar. The taste is powerful, with some raisins, raspberries, prunes and something dark and authoritarian that I canít place exactly. Some alcohol taste, but it plays along with the rest and is thus well-fitting. Endurant after-taste, strong notes of soy, blackcurrant, raspberries, and maybe some aubergine. Quadrupel is good stuff.
