Quadrupel is La Trappe’s heaviest ale with a stunning amber colour. Its warm and intense flavour is rich and finely balanced. Malty sweet, slightly burnt, and pleasantly bitter with a sweet aftertaste. Quadrupel continues to ferment after bottling and offers aromas of banana, almond, vanilla and others.

Appearance: really nice head to the beer, does not dissolve quickly, nice amber semi translucent color, very dense head with a good amount of lacing, two inch head with a nice foam top Aroma: malty and wheat key note Taste: strong malty taste at the beginning then it slowly dissipates, complex flavor and the flavor changes through the sip, can tell this is a higher alcohol beer but the alcohol flavor is very tasty, leaves a good aftertaste Palette: tingles tongue, slight bitterness Overall: a great beer and has a ton of flavor, can tell this beer is brewed with experience ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

An aged bottle at home. Date on the label is 09-2011, so this is probably 7+ years old. A deep ruby red amber brown autumnal coloured pour with a thin beige tan head. Aroma is cola cubes, boozy raisin, brown sugars, christmas pudding, whiffs of hot alcohol, Flavour is composed of unrefined sugars, toffee, burnt toffee apple, christmas spices, dried orange rind. Rich layered malts and complex sugars. Palate is medium sugar but good attenuation, highish carbonation. Age isn’t actually that noticeible on this beer. Very good beer. I used to go mad for beers like this.

0.33 l bottle. Pours copper color with a long lasting, foamy white head. Strong dried fruits notes both in aroma and taste, with roasted malts, burnt sugar, nutty and alcohol overtones. Pleasant sweet aftertaste, very soft carbonation, and not overwhelmingly heavy body with surpringly well hidden ABV. Well balanced, complex brew.

Pours copper bronze. Aroma full of banana, caramel and vanilla. When you taste it the banana sweetness is balanced with darker tones of roasted malt. Aftertaste left in the mouth is like resinous licorice. So far, this is my favourite trappist.

Very good, if somewhat distanced by the really amazing beers in its category. Esters and dried fruit, good amount of boozeyness and too much carbonation for my taste in a quad.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2016 Bottle. Color: Clear copper golden, dense white head. Taste: Nice complex mix of spices, hints of caramel, yeast, fruit (plums, bananas, apples), malt and alcohol. Full body. Medium carbonation. Mildly bitter spicy finish. Great quadrupel.

This was poured into a chalice. The appearance was a golden burnt orange ruddy brown color. Thick foamy white head that dissipates nice and even and then messy stringy lacing. The aroma takes in crisp sweet Belgian sugars, plums, raisins, mild sweet Belgian yeasty/bready, subtle vanilla, creamy almonds. The flavor takes in a nice blend of the sweetness to the spices. Lingering sweet bready/sweet to spicy aftertaste running into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body, surprisingly a bit more sessionable than I thought. Carbonation feels good. ABV barely reveals itself, wow, damn well hidden. Overall, damn fine quad, I would love to have again this time of the year.

Topbiertje! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
