Quadrupel is La Trappe’s heaviest ale with a stunning amber colour. Its warm and intense flavour is rich and finely balanced. Malty sweet, slightly burnt, and pleasantly bitter with a sweet aftertaste. Quadrupel continues to ferment after bottling and offers aromas of banana, almond, vanilla and others.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2008 This was my first bottle in 10 years. It was as I remember. I had the 750ML corked version. The pour: deep caramel color with a head with large bubbles. (This usually is a result of bottle conditioning.) The bouquet: heavy "Trappist" yeast smell. Very fruity- dates, figs, raisins. The palate: intense, malty, sweet- you can definitely tell this ale is fermented with Belgian candy sugar. The finish: definite alcohol "bite" at the back of the tongue. Aftertaste: nutty, toffeeish. Very good Quad... not the world’s very best, but it’s up there.

Aroma: Banana, caramel, nuts, raisins, vanilla. Appearance: Copper colored beer with a slightly brown/white head. Taste/Palate: Caffeine in the background, caramel, dark malts, fruity, nuts. Overall: A rather complex, yet easy to drink, beer. A really good Trappist quadruple.

33cl bottle at home from Mitra, Maarssen. Body is clear golden amber, head is medium, tan, slightly fizzy, average lasting, good lacing. Nose is slightly liqueurish fruity, flavor is fruity, caramel, molasses, light glue, light licorice, spices, light herbs. Medium to heavy sweet, light bitter, light sour. Finish is medium lasting fruity sweet sour, light to medium hoppy bitter, medium alcohol warmth. Full body, sticky texture, lively carbonation. Not too heavy, quite sweet but not bad.

Very little head but quite carbonated. Aroma is lovely, fresh, fruity. Taste is well balanced. Wouldn´t really guess the alcohol. Very drinkable beer. Definitely going to get some more.

Beaucoup de corps, un fort goût d’alcool et une saveur que seules les trappistes peuvent avoir. Elle tape mais très bonne.

Beers don’t get much better than this. Pours amber, no real head but good lacing. Sweet malty vanilla taste. And 10% alcohol! to boot!

Nice foam. Aroma, fresh fruit, banana, pineapple. Palate, very balanced, smooth, nice bubbles. Taste, banana, fruits, balanced, wheaty sweetness, taste is not long enough.

A very complex brew! Very fruity with a tone of banana and pineapple in the aroma. Slightly parfume flavoured which goes well with the strong alcohol flavour. Fine balance between the beautyful dark nut/orange colour and the expectations for the palate.

Easily the best on-draft beer I’ve ever tasted. Pours brown with a quick brown head and a relatively light but sweet, typical-Belgian nose. The flavor is too complex to do it any real justice; suffice to say it’s rich and multi-layered and disappoints in no clear ways. World class.
