mmm///beer (521), Austin, Texas, USA May 30, 2008 11.2 oz. bottle poured into trappist glass- poured semi transparent dark ruby brown, very light carbonation, creamy bubbly off white head laced nicely along the sides. Aroma of bananas, plums, green pears, and cherries. Hits the mouth with a nicely defined medium body, fruit notes come through cleanly, a brief caramel note in the middle, finish is warming and has a nice alcohol feel. Not as complex as other quads, but does a great job of making you forget about the slapnuts that are trained to say, "Austin is cool... it’s cool because it’s Austin" everyday.
yalnikim (640), Wellington, New Zealand Aug 20, 2008 Tasted 20/08/2008. Prune, toffee apple and cola... with a big dose of alcohol perfume and a some herby medicinal notes. Drinkable but alcohol dominates a bit much and I’m left feeling that is is little more than an upmarket bus-stop beer. Aquilo (150), California, USA Aug 19, 2008 I love a beer with a nice thick head. And this one has the look. It is a nice clear dark red-brown, and the head is amazingly thick and fluffy. The smell is a bit off, presumably because it hasn’t traveled well. But the bottle stink wears off after a few minutes. The aroma is then quite pleasant. It is grassy and floral. Very floral in fact, very sweet as well, like honey. The flavor is very sweet as well. Almost too sweet. Toffee, cream, and a hint of cardamom in the finish. Mouthfeel is light and bubbly, as a Trappist should be in my opinion. Quite good overall. Not my favorite style, but this is undeniably good. Reid (988), Salem, Oregon, USA Aug 14, 2008 750 ml bottle as "Koningshoeven"
Amber in colour with a tight bubbly light tan head. Ferocious carbonation shoots up continually from the bottom of the glass.
Lightly fruity aroma, peaches and cream, strawberrys, custard apples, with ever present medicinal hints in the back, with some spice.
Sweet apples in the taste..red apples, some strawberry, bitter malt finish, thats long lasting, some tannin in the end too.
Very nice comfortably carbonated..great palte.
Enjoyable beer for 10%! jason (1483), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 13, 2008 Bottle. Poured a deep brown body with thin head. Aroma is light figs, plums. Flavor is light dried fruit, plums, figs and grapes. Smooth body with a very minimal alcohol burn for the %. m4rest88 (44), Beverly Hills, California, USA Aug 12, 2008 Pours with an amber color with lots of sediment and a small off-white head. The beer smells of dark dried sweet fruit, a little of barnyard, yeast, and very dark malt. The beer feels medium to the palate with some light to medium carbonation. The initial flavor of the beer is sweet, and it finishes off with a bitter taste that lingers well after the final sip. A sensational beer that appeals to many different beer tastes!
