Quadrupel is La Trappe’s heaviest ale with a stunning amber colour. Its warm and intense flavour is rich and finely balanced. Malty sweet, slightly burnt, and pleasantly bitter with a sweet aftertaste. Quadrupel continues to ferment after bottling and offers aromas of banana, almond, vanilla and others.

Drank on tap at Burp Monk in New York with Tim Dziubek and Anuj Kumar. This was a very nice mildly bitter and full bodied beer. The color is a deep and dark amber with a creamy off-white head. The aroma is hoppy with a very sweet underlying flavor. I wish this were not my last beer of the night. The full alcoholic body knocked me out!

The juicy liquid fruitcake palate includes dark fruit sugar, dried figs, faint banana, and a trace of biscuit suspended in a very creamy, moussey beer. First up is brown sugar followed by raisins and plums. Next is the licorice followed by a lingering herbal sweetness. The 10% ABV is not very noticeable. The beers tastes like it smells, which is refreshing. It pours a hazy dark tea amber under a 3" rocky off-white foam cap that slowly dissipates into clingy clumps of finely bubbled foam. The beer lines the glass with lace and upon swirling shows a hint of legs. Smell of date and prune was almost immediate along with black plum and some light Damsen nippiness. Also a lot of brown sugar and apricot sweetness. As you drink there is also a deep boozy aroma that sneaks into the nostrils and detracts from the taste somewhat, ridiculously feather-light, almost to the point of having a flattened body... while you don’t overtly taste the alcohol, it certainly thins out and helps float the beer across the palate. Question: What would Ernest Hemingway think of the above style of writing? Same as me, probably. (All quoted from a single page of another beer rating site.) Anywho, this is a pretty good Trappiste, full bodied and heavy with a big dose of dark fruit. I would say that the alcohol is more up front than in the better Trappistes, but this is a damn fine brew. Consumed in a nice (nicer than their beer!) Stella Artois glass.

Pours and sits pretty. Smells like banana candy. Sweet and sour cherry flavour with rich, thick texture. Like over ripe fruit. Sweetness and volume of flavour hides the strength of alcohol.

I can’t say that I was too impressed with this beer. In spite of many perfect features, there’s something about that "tutti-fruti" flavour that reminded me cheap bubble gum from times of yore.
