Bottle@home. Poured in a trapist glass. Color is a dark orange with a thin white head. Aroma is banana, spices and alcohol. Flavor is sweet, banana again, spiced and warm. Heavy body, rich malty palate and a slight bitter finish. More similar to german doppelbocks or eisbocks than to a Trappist. Very good nightcap

Jan 7, 2010 (Draught at Libertine) Pours a clear dark brown with a 1/2 finger head that recedes quickly. Lacing on the glass is nice. Smell has some dark fruits, but mostly alcohol. Grapes are the only fruit I can actually pick out here. Taste is an alcohol bomb. Some grape characters come out as it warms, but still pretty hard to tolerate. Palette is pretty thin really for the style, but the carbonation and oilyness are nice.
Need to re-rate in the bottle as I’m sure it is better.

Jan 6, 2010 Bottle - A huge disappointment, I really expected a lot out of this beer. Pours light amber with a very small white head. Smells boozy and sweet, with cloves and spice. Real sharp smelling. Taste is over the top boozy with too much sharp spice. Real bready, doughy, and yeasty, and it just tastes syrupy and cloying. A sweet, boozy mess. Did I get a bad bottle?

Jan 6, 2010 Great body, and fruit, strong taste in order to simulate a classic trappist beer. Of course is missing a real procedure to be a real flamish abbey beer... too industrial. Please I accept comments. Salud !

Jan 4, 2010 The best beer from the trappistes of Koningshoeven. Nice sweet aroma of malts, yeast, spicies and dry fruits. Taste is the same sweet with fruits, raisins,sugar,yeast and some spicies with hints of alcohol. Finish is long lasting with a bit of biterness. Medioum to full body. Very well balanced.

Jan 1, 2010 33cl bottled as Koningshoeven Quadrupel. Pours amber/copper with a small off-white head. Very little lacing. Aroma is fruity, banana, apple, green grapes, yeasty, with some spice, caramel and toffee. Flavor is caramel malt, some yeast, slight fruit and spice, a bit underwhelming. Mouthfeel is oily and slick, moderate to high carbonation. OK, but I had higher hopes.

Dec 30, 2009 330mL bottle, pours a dark reddish brown with a medium head. Aroma of caramel malt, yeast and fruit. Flavour is caramel malt, sweetness and alcohol. Excellent quad.

Dec 26, 2009 Poured into snifter from bottle. Light cognac colored pour with very little head. Aroma is lovely: a very refined banana scent that isn’t artificial but mellow. Flavor is a lighter version of the aroma and boozier. Smooth but not slick over the palate.

Dec 24, 2009 30cl bottle into a Westmalle tulip: Shimmering ruby red in colour. Yeasty, lightly vinous with a touch of honey and dark caramel - reminds me of taffy apples, perfect for Christmas Eve. Initially sweet taste with banana-like esters and lots of melanoidins, followed by a bittersweet, herbal finish. The alcohol is not very well hidden, but still acceptable. A bit shy for such a big beer.
