Poured into a snifter. This tripel pours an amber color with more of an orange hue. Bright white head, with nice retention of about a quarter of an inch, which leads to nice lacing. Aromas of bananas, clove, nutmeg, honey and high alcohol esters. Taste is rather similar to the aromas but with some others thrown in there, bananas, raisins, clove and nutmeg are the leads. No hoppy characteristics at all. Mouthfeel is smooth and clean, very mellow as well, with a mild carbonation level. I prefer other tripels but this is very nice, and drinkable. Definitely worth a try.

A reasonable white head. Hazy blond colour. A good triple
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DenisLD (87) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 23, 2011
330ml bottle poured into a chalice glass. Early 2010 release.
A surprisingly muddy deep amber colour. The head retention and lacing are impressive, though.
The aroma is not that intense, possibly due to the age of the bottle. Still, I’m able to get some nice fruitiness, with apple and pear notes, as well as a bready yeastiness and some caramel.
This is not your typical tripel! More on the fruity and malty side of things, with almost a candied apple kind of taste to it, with some hop bitterness at the back. A little peppery and moderately sweet. Closer to reaching the bottom of the glass, I started to get a more white wine kind of texture to the beer.
Medium-bodied. The alcohol can be felt, both in the body and on the palate. However, overall the mouthfeel is quite balanced, with just enough of everything: sweetness, bitterness, spiciness...
Drinks well, though not as smoothly as, say, Chimay White or other Trappist tripels.
Overall, this was quite different from your typical quality tripel, but I still liked it.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 sinte (171) - udine, ITALY - MAR 21, 2011
Bottle 0.5L.
Deep golden body, with an average, creamy, white head, mostly lasting with a good lacing; average density of medium-sized bubbles.
Heavy malty aroma with intense notes of spices (mainly coriander, I think) and an evident alcoholic character.
Intense sweet flavour with a light bitter note.
Medium body with an oily texture; lively carbonation; alcoholic warming in the finish.
Complex and quite satisfactory.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 erickok (802) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - MAR 17, 2011
UPDATED: MAY 30, 2011 Orange and little amber body, full and foamy head. Aroma has bread, young cheese, peach, citrus. Second sniff doesn’t bring anything new to the table. Flavour is of a mild bitterness first, with a alcohol backup. Fades into a hoppy and light sweet n sticky taste, ending a bit abrupt for this well-developed beer. Time for another sip, then, which is no horrible thing! Really enjoyable and quite easy to drink tripel. Recommended.

Ah bring on the spring. I’m sick of porters and stouts. This has the nice light characteristic of the spring beer. Very nice, sweet with a nice balance. Tasty stuff.

Outstanding abbey trippel. Probably one of the best out there. Enjoyed it very much.
