draft at smokeless joes in Toronto. light amber colour. nice aroma with hops, some funk and subtle clove, honey essence. full palate. decent finish but would probably have more depth if not served so cold.

From Moncton NB Liquor, Pours a nice copper hazy color with a pretty big white head. Aroma of dark fruit mostly grape and some grain and herbs. A very complex aroma. I have a hard time figuring out the rest of the ingredients. Sweet taste with a medium bitter alcohol finish. Very good and masks the alcohol very well

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beer4eternity (197) - Tauranga, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 3, 2010
500ml Stone bottle, from trappist and tulip glass. Appealing copper gold hue, hazy with medium and large sized particles with thick density, nice medium sized white head mostly diminishing, fair lacing.
Nice complex fruity (juicy fruit, banana, orange, raspberry, apricot...) spicy (clove, nutmeg) sweet malt (caramel, honey, biscuit) and yeasty (bread) aromas. Very sweet, mild to moderately bitter, moderately spicy. medium+ body, mildly syrupy/oily, chewy texture, soft carbonation, warm alcoholic finish.
This is the beer that originally got me into beer rating - I thought it was totally awesome. Thanks to Suz for buying it for me. Today it’s just very very nice. Still up there in my favourites category though.
3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 PaulHegedus (505) - Ontario, CANADA - FEB 28, 2010
Bottle aged one year. It’s a golden copper colour in a wine glass with a wonderful, thick white head. It’s held up nicely in the cellar. Aroma has a fair bit of oak with black cherry, currant, grape, plenty of grain, grass. Full body with decent carbonation. Plenty of malt in the flavour initially; it’s bready with grain and toasted malt with almond. This leads to more of the dark fruit, sweet grape, dark sugar with light background bitterness and a medium, slightly sweet finish.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2010 Marketed in the U.S. under the "Koningshoeven Tripel Trappist Ale" alias, I sampled the traditional 750ml corked and caged brown bottle. The ale has a cloudy copper body with a sizable, fairly long lasting tan head with really fine lacing. There’s a fine leafy/yeasty aroma with just a bite of citrus in the nose. There’s also a hint of alcohol in the aroma as the beer warms to room temperature. Palate entry is light-bodied and effervescent with some light Belgian candi sugar sweetness, but this ale is mostly dry through and through. I mostly tasted the light malt backbone, orange peel and clove. The finish is long and dry with little alcohol despite the high ABV.
