gam (1059), brisbane, Australia Feb 24, 2008 Brown pour, head not lasting, good carbonation, aroma hoppy sweet ,flavour coriander, malty,a creaminess, slight bitter on the tongue at the end along with sweetness, well put together drink. stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Feb 21, 2008 750 ml bottle from Bev4less in Santee. Pours a hazy copper color with a large sudsy white head that lingers a fair while and leaves plenty of lacing. The Aroma is strong with bananas, pears and mild spices. The flavor mirrors the aroma--the bananas are sweet and ripe in the forefront; other fresh fruits round out the sides: grapes apples and pears. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. The finish is long with complex fruits lingering. Overall: This is the sweetest tripel with the most fruit that I can ever remember. Very different. Recommended. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Feb 13, 2008 Bottle at Chaucer’s Pub- Pours a hazed yellowy orange with a huge froth of white foam. Very fruity and yeasty aroma. Lots of apple and pear, white grapes and spicy rose petal. Sweet but almost tart apple and pear flavour profile with spicy yeast, fresh white bread crust and bittering hops to balance. Quite smooth and drinkable given the ABV. I liked it! JesseM (660), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Feb 6, 2008 On tap at the Castle. Probably the best Abbey Triple I’ve ever had. Amazing, enticing fruity aroma of pears mostly, some apple, maybe some peach or apricot. It looks amazing too, not pale and cloudy, but pure amber, and light could get through. Flavour is more or less the same with a great mouth-feel, almost sticky, from the ABV. Very filling and totally different from other Triples I’ve had. I was totally surprised by this one, it really seemed unique to me. One of the best beers I’ve ever had from the Netherlands. WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Feb 2, 2008 Slightly hazy light orange color. Typical huge foamy Belgian head. Flavor is soft and somewhat fruity. Yeasty banana bread is also present. Medium bodied. Slightly dry finish. Have to say this is pretty solid and one of the better tripel style beers. Tripplebrew (486), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Feb 2, 2008 Pours a clear amber with a thick layer of tan foam that quickly dissipates. Aroma is malt and yeast with caramel and molasses undertones. Flavor is sweet with a caramel syrup sweetness. Body is medium light. Good but not on the top of my list for Tripels. Cryotek (206), Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA Jan 30, 2008 Konings bottle- Light malty and heavy yeast aroma. Dark cloudy amber, dark honey color. Very much like a remember the quad. A little sweet, a little fruity, maybe thick oragne and plummy with some light spice. Alc is well hidden. Pleasent mouth feel, easy to drink. Good, but not elite. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Jan 28, 2008 11.2 oz. slender trappist-style bottle, freshness date on the back label, sampled in a chalice.
L: Reddish amber with a frothy head of beige colored creamy foam. Good retention and a fair amount of lace rings the glass.
S: Green grapes and pears, earth spicy, nutty yeast, honey covered bananas and crusty bread, light touches of pepper, there is no mistaking that this has the nose of a tripel. The alcohol is not very noticeable, lost in the fruity esters.
F&T: Smooth moderate body that is firmed up from the carbonation, crisp and softly dry. Earth, pepper and nutty flavors complement the tastes of grapes, pears and honey for a delectable mix. Hints of caramel grains and fresh baked bread towards the end. The hops provides a light spiciness, helping to dry out the nutty yeast and candied sugary finish. The alcohol imparts only a spicy low grade warmth in the palate.
This is a highly drinkable tripel, smoothly balanced in its tastes, very enjoyable.
