3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 GardenGabe (136) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAR 13, 2009
Pour from a 25.4oz. Slightly hazy golden beer with a small head. Tingles the tongue and the back of the nose. Smells of dried porcini mushrooms, cork and light caramel. Tastes of porcini, pepper, caramel, and raisins. Finishes of yeast and subtle hops.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 talon1117 (1011) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAR 10, 2009
UPDATED: APR 23, 2010 Pours a clear, amber color with an average, off-white, creamy, fizzy head which is mostly diminishing and leaves minimal lace. Nose is very un-tripel-like; lots of red apple notes, light musty yeast, faint spicy notes, mild warmth, and faint caramel notes. Flavor is similar the same stewed red apple note, some cinnamon to match (like apple sauce), a bit of caramel, some buttery bread, and light spicy notes. Palate is light to medium, watery, lively, and warming. Finishes spicy with pepper, cinnamon, some apple, maybe even a bit of bitterness with warmth. Not really like a tripel at all but light to amber Belgian with a very light palate for a Belgian. Very fruity... not much else to say about this one. The quad was so good and this was just not what I was expecting.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 garmonbozia (302) - Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA - MAR 3, 2009
Bottle: taste like bananas and bubble gum, nice ruby red color with lots of fizz. Very refreshing
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 aphalo (84) - Turku, FINLAND - FEB 28, 2009
Bottle 330ml. Hazy amber colour, fastly dissapearing head. Aroma has various fruits, alcohol and some sweet notes. Taste is a lot less foamy than in Quadrupel, which leaves the carbonation level unbalancy high. Flavors include alcohol, sweet malt and fruits, bitter and fresh aftertaste.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 hirigalzkar (1320) - ENSKEDE, SWEDEN - FEB 24, 2009
Bottle. Appearance: Clear amber with thin light head. Aroma: Honey sweetness and spices with hops in the background. Flavor: Well balanced. Dried aprictos, small hop bitterness, sweet alcohol, like rum or something. Palate: Medium body. Too much carbonation. Overall: The heavy carbonation and the bitterness from the hops makes this beer really refreshing. But it´s not as complex as a good abbey tripel should be.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mgermani (932) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 24, 2009
Pours a lovely rose-gold with a one-finger head with decent retention and some minimal lacing. Aroma is ripe peaches and sweet, almost tangy malt. Tastes fantastic - buttery and warm with well-balanced yet sweet malting, sharp hops without overwhelming, complex with plenty of caramel and raisin-tart. Good carbonation and slightly creamy body. This is easily my favourite tripel - more like their quad in terms of sweetness and complexity. I like! Many thanks to Robin for the trade!
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 CapnCascade (116) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 24, 2009
Pours deep copper, dense white head with excellent retention. Subtle aromas of sweet biscuits, apples, honey, flowers and yeast. Flavour is likewise fairly subtle, malty with some alcoholic warmth and no bitterness, hint of sweet fruit. Mouthfeel bespeaks high gravity, quite rich with a good bit of carbo. One of the better tripels I’ve had recently.
