Flavor is sweet and fruity with some alcohol flavors argo0 (6842), Washington DC, USA May 27, 2007 (750ml bottle) Lightly hazed amber body topped by medium beige head that mostly dissipates. Aroma is moderately sweet, candi sugar, pear, some orange, alcohol, light herb, raisin. Taste is moderately sweet, peach, pear. orange, some alcohol/plastic, herb, light caramel. Soft, medium-full body, light stickiness. Too much alcohol presence for the ABV. charlotte (1996), Vanløse, Denmark May 26, 2007 Orange colour with medium off-white head.Taste is really fruity of peach and abrikos sweet smooth mouth feeling and sweet finish. mlist55 (210), media, Pennsylvania, USA May 24, 2007 long sweet finish... a bit too long and too sweet for my taste. not a fan of the style. Muggus69 (461), Sydney, Australia May 24, 2007 330ml bottle best before Dec. ’08. Spicy aroma, orange and lemon, cinamon, honey and barley sugar candy sweetness, some dried fruitiness, very nice. Pours a clean deep golden body with a big dense white head and lace. Body is rich, quite surupy, some apparent alcohol, amooth though. Flavour is towards the sweet side with some nice honey like touches of malt, a bit of spice is apparent towards the finish with some orange and dried apricot character in there to entice. A great beer although one might say its lacking is complexity in comparison to other Trappists, and Abbey beers, of this style. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA May 22, 2007 Fiery Orange Glow With Sandy Head. Rich Syrupy Sweet Malt, Yeast, Bread and Spices, Particularly Cloves on the Nose. Heavy Creamy Mouthfeel with Spicy Notes Dropping Continuously Through. Nice Malty Underlay. Spice Notes, Breaded and Yeasty. Some Noticeable Warming. The Konings are Far More Simplistic Than Other Trappist Beers, But then Perhaps A Very Good Example of what a Great Session Beer Can Be All About. yalnikim (776), Wellington, New Zealand May 20, 2007 Tasted 18/05/2007. 330ml bottle from Island Bay New World.
Pours a rich orange gold, not quite bright, with a billowing off-white head that collapses. The nose is significantly clovey with a little underlying alcohol note (raisin and vanilla). In the mouth it’s cloying and clovey. Too clovey. Medium-fullish body and too sweet in the finish. Little complexity. Totally one-dimensional - way too phenolic - and the only Trappist beer I’ve ever had to pour down the sink... I’m very disappointed. Purchased a four-pack. Shared one bottle with a study group. Only got through half a bottle on my own, and then gave the other two away. FLnative80 (174), Orlando, Florida, USA May 14, 2007 Bottle. 11.2 fl. oz. A cloudy amber color with foamy off-white head that quickly disappears. Very sweet aroma of malt, raisin, and spice. Dry texture. Flavor is sweet with an average bitter, yeasty finish of good duration. Nice amount of noticeable alcohol.
