Stew41 (1040), Caulfield, Australia Nov 29, 2006 Take the dubbel and apply the turbo chargers. Big sweet malts across the bouquet and palate. Nose is very complete and shows good penetration. Very smooth to drink and underpinned with an appropriate level of fizz that keeps the flavours moving along. This is a polished effort that shows a lot of appeal. (e3.30 @ Café Arendnest)
PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Nov 29, 2006 Pours a murky brownish orange color with a bubbly off white head that fades. Aroma is sweet fruityness: bananas, dates, yeasty and a touch of barnyard. Creamy mouthfeel, with a slight fruityness of greengrapes, bananas, touch of maple sweetness and a light crisp dry finish. A fruity date flavor is left on the palate. Nice flavors, but nothing standout. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia Nov 26, 2006 Updated: Feb 7, 2007Looks decent, with a cloudy orange brown body and medium but moderately lasting head. Creamy butter toffee aroma. A nice smooth flavour initially, sharpening up though after swallowing leaving a slight bitter twang. Fruity aftertaste, with maybe some pineapple in there with a touch of rum. Quite a satisfying beer, with a warming glow and nice depth. I’m pleased to have a few of these beers, because it already tastes better than when I had it a few months ago. Dredd (484), Ormond, Australia Nov 22, 2006 Initial nose is strong on Banana which shifts towards apricots as it opens. The initial flavours are honey and sweetness but progresses through a whole range of fruits that finishes with a spice and smokiness that isn’t expected. This one is most unusual and unorthodox compared to the Belgium Tripels. The presentation is quiet good with good lacing and head retention and is a quality drop. Svesse (2596), Hässelby, Sweden Nov 19, 2006 (Draught at Monk’s Café, Stockholm, 17 Nov) Amber colour with small, brief head. Fruity and sweet nose with dried fruit, raisins and dried apricots. Fruity taste with dried apricots, raisins, cherries in brandy and marzipan. Balanced sweetness with a spicy bitterness in the finish. Nice one. jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 16, 2006 my favorite of la trappe thus far: pours dark orange with another disappointing head. aroma is over ripened fruit, estery with a touch of spice. flavor is really bitter sweet, and I like it. quite enjoyable sweet and dry balance. not the best, but very good. soda like palate, very active. pretty good. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA Nov 15, 2006 750 ml bottle. Dark amber with a thick, bumpy cream colored head. Bands of lacing. Aroma of toffee, brown sugar, banana, alcohol (Bananas Foster?), spice bread and brothy yeast. Sweet (more than ’bittersweet’) flavor basically like that of a cream soda, with toffee and cakey malts, "Juicy Fruit" gum, banana, citrus, herbs and spice. Medium palate, lightly carbonated. Priced well ($5.99 per 750ml) and overall pretty good. My only complaint is that it’s a little too sweet. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 14, 2006 Strong fruity aroma with plenty of alcohol apparent. Opaque deep golden blonde body is topped by a fluffy but shortlived head that recedes to a partial cover. Strong fruitiness in the flavour with alcohol notable and a pleasant botterness. Tart finish. Medium full body with very engaging carbonation. Sampled at Mondial 2006.
