carruthm (1110), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 4, 2009 dark orange in color with a smallish off white head. aroma is of sweet malts and traces of belgian fruit spices. taste was somewhat bitter combined with the sweetness. not nearly as good as the quad. CheersMate1 (763), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 3, 2009 Label changed slightly. This was actually inexpensive. Nice deep caramel brown in color. Nice thin head that sits on top and doesn’t fade away. Glad I picked this up because it looks great. Smell is of malt and yeast. I don’t get that deep yeast aroma that I would like to smell, or even that fruity yeast aroma, if you will. Leans more towards the malt aroma. Very much a caramel malt taste. Doesn’t really have too many nuances in the flavor. Yeast comes out slightly in the taste, but too muted for a tripel. Not as carbonated as I thought it would be. It is actually very smooth. Yeast comes out a lot more when this beer warms up. Overall, decent beer, not very complex in the taste, but overall I like it. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Mar 27, 2009 OnTap
Looks kinda dark for a tripel, its a hazy orange with a big fluffy head. Aroma of citrus, and yeasts, with a touch of hops. Flavor is very smooth for a tripel. This is dangerously easy drinking for a beer of 8%. Sweet aftertase, a nice overall beer. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Mar 25, 2009 Pours a dark honey color with a thick and fluffy bed of foam. Sweet banana, pineapple, and tangerine in the aroma. The flavor is sweet with banana’s foster combined with some tangy pineapple. Lively mouth feel. Good stuff. thornecb (1734), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Mar 18, 2009 Pours deep orange amber into a trappist glass. Head quickly recedes to spot surface. Apricot and yeast aromas. Sweet and full upfront with apricots and pit fruits. Turning to a dry caramel and hop finish. Quite nice... maxpizzo (44), Italy Mar 18, 2009 Updated: Apr 1, 2009dark trappist ale.fruity aroma.taste is sweet with notes of fruit(banana and apricot),bubblegum, raisins and caramel.well-balanced with the presence of hops tha t provide small bitterness.it’ s very refreshing GardenGabe (125), Denver, Colorado, USA Mar 13, 2009 Pour from a 25.4oz. Slightly hazy golden beer with a small head. Tingles the tongue and the back of the nose. Smells of dried porcini mushrooms, cork and light caramel. Tastes of porcini, pepper, caramel, and raisins. Finishes of yeast and subtle hops. talon1117 (611), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Mar 10, 2009 Pours a clear, amber color with an average, off-white, creamy, fizzy head which is mostly dimishing and leaves minimal lace. Nose is very un tripel-like; lots of red apple notes, light musty yeast, faint spicy notes, mild warmth, and faint caramel notes. Flavor is similar the same stewed red apple note, some cinnamon to match (like apple sauce), a bit of caramel, some buttery bread, and light spicy notes. Palate is light to medium, watery, lively, and warming. Finishes spicy with pepper, cinnamon, some apple, maybe even a bit of bitterness with warmth. Not really like a tripel at all but light to amber Belgain with a very light palate for a Belgian. Very fruity... not much else to say about this one. The quad was so good and this was just not what I was expecting.
