3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 TAR (2214) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - FEB 22, 2003
Light copper. Unimpressive foam retention. Aroma of sponge cake and over-ripe peaches. Very uncharacteristic triple tinges. Other notes of candy sugar, rubber, toffee, cardboard, and a soft dash of vanilla. Starts very sweet with soft, gritty carbonation. Fruitcake and peach flavors. Afternotes of coconut, yams, light perfume, and light toffee hints. Finishes simultaneously dry and sweet. Strange acidity. Overly mushy. If I detected any hop presence, they are probably something similar to Fuggles, which do not sit well with me in a Triple. Overall rather clean and interesting. Still, a shameful 'Trappist' production which left me wanting more.

Dark fruits on the nose, prunes, and raisons with candi sugar. Pours a dark blonde almost amber with a thick white head. Caramalized sugars, unrefined sugars, slightly caramelly with light fruits, green raisons, apple skins, malty with a spicy finish. Overall a good beer!

330mL bottle, pours dark orange with a medium white head. Sweet aroma of apples, oranges, raisins, and some hops. Flavour of candied sugar, burnt sugar, sweet fruits and yeast. A bit too sweet, but a nice one.

weighted golden with thick, unmoving bright white head. carbonation is the only thing stirring up the suspended goodness in the glass. aromas of orange and dry malt, but faint. sweet maple syrup, orange blossom base, soft herbal floral hop notes and everything blends to a tropical finish.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 whaleman (2175) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 1, 2005
Deep orange-copper body with chunky yeast floaties that never really settled in the bottle and a tight frothy white head. Sweet, malty nose like tree sap with spicy yeast, green raisins, and candied stone fruit. Rich, malty and on the dark side for a tripel. Lightly tangy with a medium sweet, toasty sugar quality, a leathery element, whole mandarin oranges, light phenols, and some spicy hop bitterness. Alcohol is clearly detectable. Distinct, but not in league with my favorite tripels.

Heavier than most tripels. Sweet taste to it. Malty. Not exactly what I want in a tripel, but nice.
