"A special and strong Trappist ale. The use of coriander gives it a spicy character. Golden in colour with a fruity, bittersweet taste.
Ingredients: Water; Barley malt; Hops; Yeast; Coriander

33 cL botttle/K05 J6. Aroma of caramel malt and pear. Perhaps tropical fruits. Beautiful orange color with a white head that filmed rapidly. Medium bodied. Mild carbonation. Starts with candy sweetness. Heat. Fruity perfumes. Something like sucking on the core of a pear. There is a lot of fruit mix, but I have difficulty in effecting a separation. The finish is rather dry, and the mouth is left as though it had the skin of a pear imposed. What kind of pear? Maybe Bosque. The complexity is very entertaining, and this ale seems seriously underrated. And it’s not Belgian. Amazing. Thanks to Monument Wines and Liquors in Concord, CA., for the opportunity.

(bottle) Amber colour with a big and tanned foamy head. Yeasty, sweet caramel aroma with raisins. Sweet flavour, medium to full body. Sweet roastmalty taste with notes of overripe fruits and alcohol and a touch of bubblegum. Sweetbitter, light spicy and strong but still pleasant alcoholic finish.

Not quite as good as the quad but easily better than the other two offerings from this brewery. Alcoholic aroma with hints of cream and red fruit. Similar notes in the flavour too. Something very strawberries and cream about it which I find rather enjoyable. Finish is brief with a tiny amount of hoppage which quickly turns bitter then gives a good sized kick of alcohol right at the death. Not bad.

slightly hazy red-amber colour, few foam, candy sugar, perfumy with notes of red fruits, a bit plastic like, full-bodied with a bitter spicy alcohol finish - artificial; by far no more what it was in the past

Bottle. Deep golden, a bit unclear, lazy carbonation, big creamy off-white head. Solid sweet orangey-almondy nose. Moderate to solid sweet flavour, accompanied by a little bitterness, medium bodied. Almonds, sweet fruits and a little tartness in the finish. Pleasant, warming stuff........

1pint, 9.4oz (750ml) Koningshoeven corked bottle. Medium amber in color with an averaged sized off white head. Lots of small to medium particles. Fruity and sweet aroma and taste (bananas and bubblegum) with slight yeast. Light spices in the taste as well. Not a bad tripel. I have a 6 pack of La Trappe that I have had for 4 years that I can't wait to open and compare with the Koningshoeven labeled version.

Bottle from Koningshoeven 4 pack. Poured a cloudy light brown with an average fizzy off-white head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Moderate toasted caramel malty, tart citrus and small alcohol aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Medium balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of long duration.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2011 From a slightly fresher bottle. Deep golden colour topped by a very light head. The aroma is quite spicy and a little bit of fruity citrus. There is a bit of light spicy/earthy character along with a little bit of soft peachy spice. Lean bodied although there is a little bit of honeyed fruit flavour. A fairly carbonic sort of flavour from the high carbonation that I don’t recall. It’s quite soft and a little bit chewy as well. Pretty tasty stuff.

Bottle. Golden-coloured brew with very little head at all. The aroma is quite spicy. Soft clove and apricot along with a bit of a musky note on the back. There is a bit of citrus and a nice sweet cologne-like spiciness. There is also a kiss of lightly crackery Belgian malts and there is a lightly oxidized note. A little bit of corkiness and some lingering citrus and apricot. A kiss of sherry flavour. A great balance of swet fruits and some yeastiness with a nice dryness on the back that keeps this nicely drinkable. It tastes like it has a bit of age on it (bunch of Googling to translate the La Trappe date code... yup, January, 2007 brew date). Really quite tasty with everything nice and restrained and balanced. 8 3 7 4 15
