bottle. Deep golden colour, persisitent off-white head. Malty-fruity-spicy nose. Full-bodied, malty base with lots of spices, also honey and berries. Aromatic hops blend in towards the lingering finish.

My i wrote these scores only 20-30 mins ago and as my thoughts go over it i feel as if im very much so over scoring it. Aroma is honey sweetness with sumflowers and orange having a little say. Taste is also similar with some buttery caramel malt kicking in however theres some lemon zest trying to hide the sweetness which helps. I can understand now why people say this isnt as good as it used to be since its been overtaken, as theres far far better examples of the style. Rather upsetting to see a trappist brew something so bad.

Bottle. Pours clear orange with an average, frothy cream colored head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel, toast), light hops (spicy), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of pepper, peach, and brown sugar. Flavor is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel, toast), average hops (spicy), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of pepper, peach, alcohol, wood, and brown sugar. Full body, moderate warmth and carbonation, light creaminess with a dry and biting finish.

750 ml corked and caged bottle poured a clear golden amber with a lingering ring of off white foam. Aromas of carmel, straw, yeast, pear, light pineapple and light spice. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of carmel, pear, yeast and light straw with a crisp lightly sweet fruity finish.

Bottle. My personal favorite of the la trappe offerings. Pours a hazy golden body with a white head. lots of fruit, orange, lemon, and apple. Yeast spiciness and a moderate alcohol warming. Good stuff.

Bottle picked up the ’Dodgy Deli’ on the Cowley Rd, Wed 23rd August. This is right up there with the Quadrupel of theirs I had very recently. Pours a warm golden colour with a sweet, rich and fruity aroma, this is big on bananas from the very first sip, a wonderful rich creamy, malty taste envelopes your taste buds but it just keeps coming back to banana’s for me, not a problem at all as this is yet another stunner from Tilburg.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2003 Orange to brown in colour, decent head, but fades. Sweet and spicy, syruppy texture, and a touch salty, perhaps a bit too much alcohol, kind of easy to drink however, not overly interesting.

Bottle from Total Wine. Amber pour, a bit hazy with a nice white head. Aroma is very fruity...some bananas and some stone fruit. Flavor is quite good. Yeast, spice, banana and a slight bit of bitterness can be found.
