COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
La Trappe Tripel’s aroma is slightly malty and estery. This ale owes its crisp and spicy character to the use of coriander and other spices and herbs, as well as to post-fermentation in the bottle. Despite its full, rich flavour, this out-of-the-ordinary ale still has a light and dry aftertaste with a touch of bitter finesse.
Ingredients: Water; Barley malt; Hops; Yeast; Coriander. 17.5°

I’ve got a soft spot for hazy, dark golden beers with off-white, fully lasting heads that leaves laces, so 5 for the Appearance it is. The aroma is strong, crisp and dry, with notes of Belgian yeast, spices and pale malts, in the back I get banana, apple, anise seeds and honey. Lovely! The flavour is also strong and is definitely very spicy. The yeasty notes, honey and pale malt is also obvious, and is has a moderate generic fruity feel. The alcohol is noticeable but well integrated. Finally traces of sweet vanilla. The taste is moderate sweet, and the long finish is moderate bitter. It’s smooth on the palate and it dries up in the late finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A very crisp and spicy tripel, despite the quite sweet initial taste.

Transfer from BA review on 5-10-13- Poured from bottle into a chalice glass Appearance- Pours a slightly hazed golden orange color with a two finger off white head present upon pouring. Rather quickly the head fades leaving a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is heaviest of a citrus and yeasty smell with lots of banana and spice mixed within. Other aromas of other lighter fruits, like apricot and peach are present as well with all the smells being complemented by a light alcohol aroma. Taste – The taste follows the nose fairly well with a front showing of citrus and some lightly toasted malt. The yeast quickly come to the tongue and bring with them flavors of banana and a bit of clove. As the flavor advances further a bit of a warming alcohol taste begins developing with some flavors of apricot and a little bit of earthy hop coming at the end of the taste. With the alcohol now slightly stronger at the end of the taste, a fruited and yeasty, warming taste is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side for an 8 % abv triple with a carbonation level that is average to slightly above average for the style. The combination of the two, when mixed with the lighter fruit flavors, give a crispness to the brew, making it quite easy drinking. Overall- A nice triple that has a great easy drinking character with a good blend of malt, light fruits and yeast. Rather enjoyable.

An excellent tripel. Golden appearance, soapy, thick head. Lots of spice and pepper, some sweet bready finish. Tried at the brewery in 2014.

330ml bottle ordered through Vinmonopolet Bestillingsutvalget. Frothy, pearl white head. Close to clear dark golden body. Lacing rings down the glass. Aromas of citrus, caramel, dust and yeast. Quite comprehensive taste of brown malts, dried fruits, bread, and mid-tart apples supported by integrated alcohol. Vinous impression. Soft in the mouth. Decent sipper late on a Saturday eve (Tromsø 06.09.2014).

Drink cool (10-12°C) Eye: pours a hazy copper-like colour with medium big, slowly dissipating white head, few carbonation Nose: very complex: smells of wheat, raisins, grapes, sweet cherries, marmalade. Mouth: buttery body, caramel, wheat, barley, wholegrain bread, honey, yeast, over ripe apples/cider, wine gums, flowerish notes and coriander. Palate: wheat, barley, wholegrain bread, pumpernickel, linzertorte, nuts. Overall: very nice tripel. i’ll have this one again. don’t drink it to cold otherwise you won’t get all of the complexity.

Deep golden colour with large white head that quickly settles. Aromas bubblegum, banana, honey, grains, coriander. Taste is sweet - banana bread, honeycomb, multigrain bread, spices. Medium bodied, oily mouthfeel. Very enjoyable.

330 ml bottle. Dark canary yellow, quite clear, with a tiny, non persistent bright white head. Very pungent and sharp nose, some light booze notes, fruit esters, brown sugar, white bread, yeast, grapes and candied apples. Very dry and zingy, fruity, moderately malty, slightly spicy and dusty. The alchool is extremely well hidden, but it’s not exactly easy to drink due to extreme fizziness. Lively carbonation, medium body, slightly oily texture. Not my favourite tripel, but clearly a solid beer.
