4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 igel (196) - New Mexico, USA - SEP 1, 2004
This triple pours a respectable full head that diminishes quickly, but leaves a creamy lace that maintains to the end (clinging slightly). Its tones are a rose gold with a hazy translucence. The aroma is of malt and caramel, with a distinctive freshness that hints of melon. An exceptional balance of sweet and bitter with a slightly dry finish. Not overwhelming and not boring.

Close to my idea of perfection. This beer has a clear and beautiful orange body with a small off white head. It smells of sweet malts along with a whole bouquet of ripening fruits, slight ginger and citrus as well. The taste is a beautiful marriage of fruit, sweets, and spice. It begins with caramel and cinnamon, ends with spices and hints of bittersweet fruits. Medium fill to the plate, playfully fizzy with a wonderfully long warm finish. Stare into the fire and ponder the shaping of the world. Irresistible.

Bottle, 1 year ago.
Quite dark for a tripel, looks more like a weizenbock. Very cloudy, with short-lasting head.
Very strong aroma, with plenty of yeasty notes, some citrus fruits and a bit of toffee.
At first it seems light-bodied, but then the strong maltiness comes with a full force. It is accompanied by pears, some toffee and strong impression of alcohol.

Bottle poured into a glass. Well balanced between sweetness and alcohol. Much better than the dubbel. Very good Belgium style beer. Would highly recommend if you like abbey style beers.

Tried it at Woodrock bar, typical rock n’ roll bar in Portugal. Served in trappist glass. Pour a characteristic taste you usually find in abbey belgium trappists, yet it’s different, as it’s lighter and slightly less noticeable. The aroma is not as fuity as you will find in quadrupels or even most tripels, yet it is still alot more aromatic than Chimay or it’s own Dubbel version. At the same time very tasty, but also slightly dry which makes it also easy to drink. Outstanding

It’s a long tima ago I drank this one but I remember it like it was yesterday: this is a perfect example why a trappist that isn’t Belgian still can be good!

750ml bottle. Sweet fruit and citrus with a good amount of yeast. Lots of head, medium body. The 8% alcohol is not noticeable.

Another delicious offering from La Trappe! This Tripel has a beige, cream-like head with a yeasty and smoky/toasty aroma with some degree of sweetness. There’s something intriguing about the aroma in which I can’t seems to pinpoint what it is! Slight sweetness on the palate with apparent smoky/toasty character and a bitter but refreshing finish. Reminds me of a vintage Champagne I once had 10 years ago – 1990 Philippe Gonet Blanc de Blancs!
