Re-rate: ligth bronze. The honey aroma that seems to be in all La Trappe ales. Taste very similar to the dubbel, but better balanced.

A long sweet finish... a bit too long and too sweet for my taste, but a good beer nevertheless. Definitely better drank around 45 degrees. Nice copper/orange color. Medium body.

For some reason, I have bypassed this beer for over twenty years. I finally bought one, and here is what I think. It’s ok. Slightly better than average. That’s all.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Drew (2411) - Kent, Ohio, USA - NOV 21, 2002
Unsubstantial is the word that comes to mind. Starts fruity - grapes and pears. Thin in the middle, a little thicker around the sides. Finishes thinly sweet and dry - a hop/alcohol combo with light sugar bowl taste. This is not a bad brew, just lacks the complexity of many of the others in this style. No yeast floaties at all. My bottle had the new "Koningshoeven" label instead of La Trappe.

330 ml bottle. Bright golden brown color with sediment floating about. Green fruits (apple, melon) in the taste. A little sweet.

Deep orange-copper body with chunky yeast floaties that never really settled in the bottle and a tight frothy white head. Sweet, malty nose like tree sap with spicy yeast, green raisins, and candied stone fruit. Rich, malty and on the dark side for a tripel. Lightly tangy with a medium sweet, toasty sugar quality, a leathery element, whole mandarin oranges, light phenols, and some spicy hop bitterness. Alcohol is clearly detectable. Distinct, but not in league with my favorite tripels.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2005 A cloudy orange beer with an OK head - but it disappears quit fast. It has a very fresh fruity and yeasty aroma with hints of alcohol. The flavor has an alcohol sharpness but is very pleasant fruity with hints of yeast. It’s a pretty sweet beer with almost no bitterness. The fruit taste lingers pretty long.
3.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 ARMed (526) - Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 26, 2003
A belgium ale aroma abounds. The apperarance is a golden slighlty hazy brew with a slight carbonation with a nice fluffy light head that slow dissapates. The flavor is a bitter sweety honey flavor with a smooth aftertaste and a rich finish. The alcohol finish is evident. Stong palate with an evident spice. Overall I like the distinctive taste and the subtle flavor that abounds.

1995 bottle. Thanks Hopdog. Dark amber in color with a nice white head. Candied malt aroma. Banana notes. Musty. Vanilla and citrus flavor. Light alcohol character. Thin palate. Ok beer.
