Bottle conditioned.
La Trappe Tripel’s aroma is slightly malty and estery. This ale owes its crisp and spicy character to the use of coriander and other spices and herbs, as well as to post-fermentation in the bottle. Despite its full, rich flavour, this out-of-the-ordinary ale still has a light and dry aftertaste with a touch of bitter finesse.
Ingredients: Water; Barley malt; Hops; Yeast; Coriander. 17.5°

330ml bottle poured into a chalice glass. Early 2010 release.

A surprisingly muddy deep amber colour. The head retention and lacing are impressive, though.

The aroma is not that intense, possibly due to the age of the bottle. Still, I’m able to get some nice fruitiness, with apple and pear notes, as well as a bready yeastiness and some caramel.

This is not your typical tripel! More on the fruity and malty side of things, with almost a candied apple kind of taste to it, with some hop bitterness at the back. A little peppery and moderately sweet. Closer to reaching the bottom of the glass, I started to get a more white wine kind of texture to the beer.

Medium-bodied. The alcohol can be felt, both in the body and on the palate. However, overall the mouthfeel is quite balanced, with just enough of everything: sweetness, bitterness, spiciness...

Drinks well, though not as smoothly as, say, Chimay White or other Trappist tripels.

Overall, this was quite different from your typical quality tripel, but I still liked it.

33 cl / 330 ml, flaske, 8,0 % ABV, købt i Den Belgiske Ølbutik i Vanløse, 24. januar 2015.

Bottle sample. Clear light golden with small off-white head. Sweetish aroma, fruity (banana, pear), yeasty, notes of candy and a bit alcoholic. Very sweet flavor, yeasty and fruity (pear, peach and some banana), very alcoholic. Light carbonation, medium-bodied.

Hazy amber color, small white head which fades away. Sour aroma, some wine, reminds me of sour saisons. Taste is sweet, sour and cough syrup. Thin, watery, flat carbonation. Highly overrated, if you ask me.

bottle at home. dark yellow color, clear and shiny but contains light particles, little off white head. smells malty, light grains, yeasty, smells sweet, pears & apple. fully body, slick, sweet, light fruity, light bubbly, light alcoholic, acidic, well balanced but finishes rather neutral, overall a bit too sweet for me.

Une belle bière concentrée, houblonnée, ronde, opulente mais qui reste équilibrée. Un bière classique pour le style triple.

Tap at the Delirium Monastarium, Brussels. Poured a hazy medium amber with a frothy white head and some clingy lace. The aroma is light yeast with some fruity notes. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a yeast, fruity, light spice, alcoholic bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
