La Trappe Tripel’s aroma is slightly malty and estery. Despite its full, rich flavour, this out-of-the-ordinary ale still has a light and dry aftertaste with a touch of bitter finesse.
Ingredients: Water; Barley malt; Hops; Yeast. 17.5°

330ml bottle poured into a chalice glass. Early 2010 release.

A surprisingly muddy deep amber colour. The head retention and lacing are impressive, though.

The aroma is not that intense, possibly due to the age of the bottle. Still, I’m able to get some nice fruitiness, with apple and pear notes, as well as a bready yeastiness and some caramel.

This is not your typical tripel! More on the fruity and malty side of things, with almost a candied apple kind of taste to it, with some hop bitterness at the back. A little peppery and moderately sweet. Closer to reaching the bottom of the glass, I started to get a more white wine kind of texture to the beer.

Medium-bodied. The alcohol can be felt, both in the body and on the palate. However, overall the mouthfeel is quite balanced, with just enough of everything: sweetness, bitterness, spiciness...

Drinks well, though not as smoothly as, say, Chimay White or other Trappist tripels.

Overall, this was quite different from your typical quality tripel, but I still liked it.

Not too strong ambar beer. Regular aroma. Nothing special taste. Not so much different than pilsener beer

Hazy, yellow beer with a two finger high, white head.

Nose: Belgian yeast, banana, honey, sugar and bread.
Taste: Caramel malt, lemon, banana, herbs, black pepper, coriander and biscuit.
Body: Full body and high carbonation. Great texture. Soft.

A great tripel!

Dark blond tripel with white head. Touches of citrus, orange, bit of coriander. light sweetness and littlel bitters, which I find a bit disappointing. It’s not a bad one, but it’s not a Westmalle Tripel

Heavier body and less hoppy than Wesmalle makes the beer a bit cloying for my taste. Aromas or pils malt, belgian spicy yeast, caramel. Flavors of pils malt, honey-like belgian esters, peppery clovy spice, banana. Finish is a bit cloying for a tripel.

Had this after a San Miguel and it was really good. Peach nose, sweet and dry Monbazillac body. Drank it too fast to remember the last bits but this was a good golden Belgian. It’s great to be able to write things like this after drinking a beer on your own.

disclaimer: old bottle. pours hazy golden orange with a small white cap, some retention and lacing. white grapes, rotten fruits, toasted golden candi and brown sugar, belgian spiciness, yeast. average to light carbonation - obviously has lost it; medium body - oily and kind of syrupy; semi-sweet and grassy-spicy finish. blah. will try a fresh bottle.

Bottle. Dark blond color, nice lacing head. Aroma has some cloves, orange peel, yeast and fresh hop notes. Balanced taste, light sweet, a bit above medium bitterness, distinguishable sourness. Enduring malty, hoppy aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, low carbonation.

Maker: De Koningshoeven, Berkel-Enschot, Netherlands *** Beer: La Trappe Tripel (bottled, unfiltered, 750ml) *** Style: Abbey Tripel *** ALC.VOL.: 8.0% *** "La Trappe Tripel’s aroma is slightly malty and estery. Despite its full, rich flavour, this out-of-the-ordinary ale still has a light and dry aftertaste with a touch of bitter finesse." [brewery note]. And coriander, they forgot to say. *** Colour: Bright hazy orange, with a large, frothy off-white head. *** Nose: Banana, yeast, mild esters, spices. *** Texture: Full-bodied, not watery (but not oily either). Moderate carbonation. *** Taste: Bananas loom large at the start, together with various spices, including coriander Yeast. Alcohol blends in well. Hoppy notes are added in the middle, with a wee hint of lemon. Finish is the same, with some estery notes. After taste is coriander, yeast, banana and esters. *** Impressions: Powerful but non-cloying abbey tripel, eminently (and dangerously) drinkable. Much like a Bavarian wheat "plus", only it’s not a wheat beer. Highly recommended.

750ml bottle. Pours a fairly clear golden orange with a finger and a half of fluffy, white head that thins to a thick film. Aroma is great with spicy notes of Belgian yeast, candy sugar, bubble gum, and orange citrus. Yum. Taste is well balanced. Bready caramel, candy sugar, clove spice, bubble gum, orange citrus, and spice laced ending. Medium body with a medium-high carbonation. Mildly syrupy in the mouth with a near effervescent carbonation. Overall really nice. Candy sugar, clove spice, bubble gum, orange citrus, and some nice caramel.
