Bottle conditioned.
La Trappe Tripel’s aroma is slightly malty and estery. Despite its full, rich flavour, this out-of-the-ordinary ale still has a light and dry aftertaste with a touch of bitter finesse.
Ingredients: Water; Barley malt; Hops; Yeast. 17.5°

330ml bottle poured into a chalice glass. Early 2010 release.

A surprisingly muddy deep amber colour. The head retention and lacing are impressive, though.

The aroma is not that intense, possibly due to the age of the bottle. Still, I’m able to get some nice fruitiness, with apple and pear notes, as well as a bready yeastiness and some caramel.

This is not your typical tripel! More on the fruity and malty side of things, with almost a candied apple kind of taste to it, with some hop bitterness at the back. A little peppery and moderately sweet. Closer to reaching the bottom of the glass, I started to get a more white wine kind of texture to the beer.

Medium-bodied. The alcohol can be felt, both in the body and on the palate. However, overall the mouthfeel is quite balanced, with just enough of everything: sweetness, bitterness, spiciness...

Drinks well, though not as smoothly as, say, Chimay White or other Trappist tripels.

Overall, this was quite different from your typical quality tripel, but I still liked it.

Aroma: Banana, citrus, honey, yeast. Appearance: Turbid golden beer with a steady white head. Taste/Palate: Slightly bitter, sweet and dry; really fruity, banana, citrus, honey, yeast. Overall: Really nice triple, not too heavy but still a good fruity taste.

Medium sweet, medium bitter, slightly sour. Finish is medium lasting hoppy medium bittersweet, medium alcohol warmth. Medium body, dry texture, lively carbonation. Nice hoppy tripel.

Golden amber opaque. Formed a medium Cream, dense, well aerated, but of little persistence leaving a thin collar at the top of its beautiful glass Trappist. The aroma is subtle and slightly sweet with beautiful citrus notes of orange with honey, lemon, vanilla, of striking banana, fresh yeast and Belgian damask. Taste is sweet dry, fruity denoting an apricot dueling with banana and vanilla in a finish of hops cutting malts sweet and generate an almost imperceptible bitterness. This is all cherished by 8% ABV alcohol in a subtle and spicy dose numbs your mouth. A well spiced beer with coriander touches and what is actually malted just right. High carbonation, Medium full body, a little dry and soft palate in a pleasant and high drinkability. Alcohol in the show The hot mouth, but that happens to be a supporting and does not generate any discomfort. The aftertaste is shown slightly acidic. A traditional and elegant Trappist!

This 330ml bottle was dated best before August 2016. There was also a bottled date code 09:45 K04B14 which from what I’ve read on the multiple forums means at the very least, bottled on February 2014. It was poured into a Chimay goblet a hazy golden colour with a one finger white head which had good retention. Aromas of sweet honey with bready malts followed by fruity pear and a bit of alcohol. There was a clear alcohol taste at the beginning and end, but in between, there is honey, pear and some slight bitter lemon citrus. It was medium bodied with medium carbonation and a little creamy. Overall, it was a pretty good tripel. I liked that it was not too sweet, although the alcohol taste is quite prominent.

Pretty hard to get that cork off! Once opened though, poured a nice off-white head with large bubbles. Mildly carbonated. Has a medium golden appearance. Moderate lacing. Aroma is wheaty, and notes of vanilla. Getting some roasted malts in the flavour along with hints of caramel, hops, various mild spices and herbs. Some bitterness at the start but gives way to a smooth velvety mouthfeel. Good stuff.
