COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
La Trappe Tripel’s aroma is slightly malty and estery. This ale owes its crisp and spicy character to the use of coriander and other spices and herbs, as well as to post-fermentation in the bottle. Despite its full, rich flavour, this out-of-the-ordinary ale still has a light and dry aftertaste with a touch of bitter finesse.
Ingredients: Water; Barley malt; Hops; Yeast; Coriander. 17.5°

330ml bottle poured into a chalice glass. Early 2010 release.

A surprisingly muddy deep amber colour. The head retention and lacing are impressive, though.

The aroma is not that intense, possibly due to the age of the bottle. Still, I’m able to get some nice fruitiness, with apple and pear notes, as well as a bready yeastiness and some caramel.

This is not your typical tripel! More on the fruity and malty side of things, with almost a candied apple kind of taste to it, with some hop bitterness at the back. A little peppery and moderately sweet. Closer to reaching the bottom of the glass, I started to get a more white wine kind of texture to the beer.

Medium-bodied. The alcohol can be felt, both in the body and on the palate. However, overall the mouthfeel is quite balanced, with just enough of everything: sweetness, bitterness, spiciness...

Drinks well, though not as smoothly as, say, Chimay White or other Trappist tripels.

Overall, this was quite different from your typical quality tripel, but I still liked it.

A somewhat cloudy, yellow beer with a white layer of foam. Nice aroma of malts and spices. A somewhat bitter, spicy taste. It remains in the beautiful aftertaste, but leaves a dry palate. Een iets troebel, geel bier met een witte kraag. Lekker moutig aroma met kruidige tinten. Een iets bittere, lekkere kruidige smaak, en blijft hangen in de nasmaak, maar heeft wel een droge afdronk.

Bottle. Appearance- clear, golden/amber, half a finger white head which fades away to nothing quite quickly. Aroma- spice, malt, orange peel, fruit juice, zest. Taste- full bodied and a bit creamy, fruity hints, sugary sweetness, long finish, stewed apple hints, orange. Very good, not quite in the class of a Tripel Karmeliet though.

30cl bottle. Fruity, mildly yeasty tripel. Pours gently cloudy, golden, with zero head (pour it from high above to have head if you prefer it - frothy and beery). Yeast present in all the stages, and it is enjoyable within this beer. Quad is still more closer to my taste than tripel or dubbel, though they are both good beers.

Golden beer with a very quickly disappearing white head. Medium carbonation. Yeast and Fruitiness in the Aroma. Carameland light spices in the taste. A warming aftertaste. Good triple, totally in line with their other beers.
