3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Metalchopz (1429) - Quebec, CANADA - AUG 10, 2011
Originally rated October 2006. Sampled at the pub itself, in Jonquière, Quebec. Poured a dark brown (almost black) colour with red highlights. Its head was creamy, tanned with long retention. Had a good coffee and chocolat nose with a mild creamy mouthfeel. Nice roasted malt flavour with slight smokiness. Lacking maybe a bit of bite (should be stronger), but other than that, quite a good brew.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 17, 2007
UPDATED: AUG 3, 2007 Second try, 6 months later, still at the brewpub:
This time around, the vinosity and tartness was absent, and what I got was a very roasty, nitroed stout with some chocolate undertones. More of a Stout for sure, a decent one too, but a wide change from the first glass a few months prior. 3.2/5.
First try:
Any first impressions?
-A veil of foam covers the deep black with red highlights.
-A fruity vinosity evolves within the tame aroma.
-Roastiness and citrus pulp play off each other well, as vinosity walks by, waving.
-Quite effervescent, and not too heavily malted, its mouthfeel is juicy and made for easy drinking.
What if you dig deeper?
-Supporting English hops and sagacious vinosity tell a fun story in the end.
-Flaky roastiness fits with splash of tartness.
-This was billed as a porter on the board, not the stout that their website suggests (which most people seem to have had here). Is this a different beer altogether, or just another artisanal brew that has either greatly evolved or just came out quite differently than usual?
-Its tartness might be offputting for some, but it truly fits this old Porter billing, and is never overdone.
On tap at the brewpub. 3.2/5

A deep red-brown beer with a small brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted malt and light notes of coffee. The flavor contains light notes of caramel and coffee, and it has a dry roasted end.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tiggmtl (4475) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 17, 2005
Enticing aroma offers notes of roasted malts, licorice, chocolate and some dark fruit. A decent brown head lasts nicely atop the jet black body. Roastiness up front melds with chocolate character before re-asserting it’s dominance in the lightly bitter finish. Low carbonation, sticky texture and medium-light body. A well crafted and enjoyable stout. Sampled at the brewpub with Oakes, Rastacouere and Ungstrup.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Oakes (10202) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 15, 2005
Very dark brown. Sweet chocolatey malts with faint roast overtones. Roasty barley tartness combines with a relatively thin body in a way unbecoming for a stout. Character is mainly roasty. Simple stuff.
