on tap on the premises. dark golden orange pour with a thin off-white cap, some retention and lacing. red berry fruitiness, phenolic welcoming touch, very peppery, caramel, specialty and soft lightly smoked maltiness, earthy and mineral angles, booze. average carbonation - prickles a little, light body - oily, balanced spicy-grassy-herbal finish. interesting.

Pours a dark copper with a small white head that offers good lacing power. Nose is of smoke and roasted malt, pretty simple but pretty much what you expect from a scotch ale. Taste is of peat smoke and dry. Body was medium, carbonation too. Overall a fair scotch ale, maybe lacking a little body and sugar.

(Rating #2010)

My Bottom Line:
Caramelized cereals and accompanying roastiness develop timid fruitiness until a hint of grassy hop bitterness seals this amenable Scottish-style Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the clear copper.
-The mouthfeel is svelte and smooth, a fine feature of this quenching malt-driven brew.
-As in all Voie Maltée beers, the flavors are well-structured and extremely clean.
-The malts could be better developed in the flavor profile to suit my tastes in the style. As is, they are quite straightforward.
-The green hop bitterness builds with every sip.

On tap at the Chicoutimi brewpub.
