2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap @ La Voie Maltée (Québec). Slightly hazy yellow with a small white head and little to no lacing. Aroma is mild with bananas, light citrus and slight hoppy notes. Taste is also very mild with less banana than aroma and a little more citrus. Light acidic presence. Light/weak body. Watery. Soft carbonation. It’s easily drinkable and there’s nothing "off", but like the other beers from their "Kuvée Maison" series the body is too weak/watery.

On tap at the Chicoutimi brewpub. Hazy blond body with a thin white creamy head. Fresh but thin malty aroma with some citrusy hints. Good malty/hoppy taste with yeasty, grainy, and coriander notes. Ends with a decent bittersweet finish. Not bad.

On tap at brewpub. An opaque whitish with a short lasting white head. Flavor is lemoney, oranges, bananas, mango...basically, a tropical fruit deluge. Fine bitterness, well balanced. Medium to strong body, soft mouthfeel. The highlight of my tasting session at La Voie Maltée.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Originally rated October 2006. Sampled at the pub itself, in Jonquière, Quebec. This one was very close to being the Muse witbier they brew, but had slight changes. The nose was sour, and the taste was actually quite smokey, which made this beer really interesting and better than they other.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 3, 2007 Second try, still at the brewpub:
The Belgian character of this Weizen was still present, and in fact the funky yeastiness I so loved in their Muse was present here too (but wasn’t 6 months ago). Tropical fruit and this citric, wild yeast blended admirably, and summer quenching was reached, and much more! 3.7/5
Any first impressions?
-A veil of foam tops the cloudy pale yellow; an obvious wheat beer appearance.
-Clovey phenols rise above the otherwise discreet aroma.
-Milkiness runs through the hay, as tartness makes its quenching.
-The creamy mouthfeel is aptly carbonated, but doesn’t carry enough flavors to really be interesting.
What if you dig deeper?
-Some banana esters are found in the nose and flavor profile.
-Fruity bubblegum sweetens the spectrum.
-Citrus fruit evolves from the tartness.
-This quenching German wheat does have its Belgian leanings, but in any case it remains a lightly spicy and fruity generic "blanche" to me.
On tap at the brewpub.
