Drank on tap (10 oz) at the Vanier (Quebec City) brewpub on Febuary 5, 2014. Black, small head. Roasted barley aroma, notes of bitter coffee. Dark roasted grain flavor, notes of coffee cream, malted barley bitterness. It is very well done, period!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
tap on the premises, quebec city, cidade de deus. unclear dark brown pour with a small creamy light beige cap, some retention, nice lacing sticking onto glass. fresh and bitter coffee upfront, lean chocolate malts, hint of smoke - muted though - could be smokier even for a large public brew, some nutty caramel, chalk, slightly earthy and ashy. moderate carbonation, light body - slightly lacking for a double porter at this ranging abv, slightly mineral-chalky-coffee drying finish. good drinkability with pub fare. inoffensive, not daring, but nicely crafted.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at brewpub. Pours a nice dark brown with a thin but persisting offwhite head that offers good lacing. Aroma is of peated malt, nice and not overdone. Smoky plenty without being ashy. Taste is lightly sweet but smoke covers pretty much everything. Burnt chestnuts, light caramel and coffee. Body is on the lighter side, a bit too thin I might say. Still, a nice seasonal that I will most likely drink again on my next visit.
