2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 larsga (4684) - Oslo, - AUG 6, 2007
Small white head shrinks quickly. Yellow body with carbonation. Clean apple, grain, and straw aroma with hoppy notes. Thin watery papery grain taste with chalky, sharpish aftertaste. Yucky papery corn taste lingers. Flawed and boring. (0.341l bottle at Kyoto restaurant in Montreal.)

This is a means to an end, just like Coca Cola is a means to diabetes. I still get pride, though, when seeing that it remains popular in Upstate New York. Not sure why. It can be hard to tell where these macro pale lagers should be on the scale... is this a 35 percentile brew, 45, or 55? Nobody could really tell you, because they’re all quite the same. Just think of any other middling pale lager you’ve had, and this is like that, but a bit on the grassy side.

Drank on tap at Winking Lizard in Cleveland, OH. 32oz mug served pleasantly chilled. I’m not sure if it was rocky-mountain-blue cold, but I was happy. Light head. Supreme drinkability. Good to drink. Not too shabby. Wahhhh not a craft beer. Wahhh wahhh wahhhhhhhhh.

24oz can purchased from CVS. Pretty nice thin white head. Some little bits of lace. Not much flavor to this, mostly watery - but not bad. Enough discernible hops for them to probably get away with calling this a pilsner, I think, but still quite a bit of skunky lagerness. Lighter carbonation, for a macro. It’s pretty smooth and dry, can’t complain with the texture. Light salty savory taste - not offensive, not great. Honestly... better than I was expecting. Appropriate for hanging out with my college senior friends at 4pm after rocking a major presentation, however... It definitely gets hard to finish about halfway through. Totally lost interest once I wrapped up my notes. But at 24oz for a dollar-something, I’m sure you could do worse. Appropriately priced.

Mostly lighter carbonated and bland tasting with some grassy hints. Low grade but there is worse.

If you’re into pilsners, this is an excellent choice. In Michgan, the typical working man likes his Budweiser and Miller. They like to get drunk and not be filled up. Therefore, it can be difficult to find bars with an ales. And it can be next to impossible to find a porter. So when I’m at a bar that doesn’t have Molson Canadian, I go to Blue. It’s smooth and light and if you like that, you will like this beer.

Given the choise between Bud and Blue......I’ll ask what else ya got??? However if that IS my choice.....I like blue a little more, that being said.....not by much.

pale gold. minimal head. carbonated corn water. it sure beats carrot water, but not as good as actual beer.

Originally reviewed: 6/23/11. 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Just had this on tap a few days ago, let’s see how it compares. The pour yields the same pale gold with a thin white cap. The nose is just a mild - corn, grass, faint citrus. The mouth is crisp and refreshing still, albeit on the thin side. The flavors seem more pronounced from the bottle (though I think that has more to do with the ice-cold glass my draft was served in - how I hate that). Creamy corn, light malt, mild bitterness. Grainy finish. Not a bad brew. I’d reach for this before many other adjuncts.

Poured into a pils glass. 24 oz. can. I haven’t had this since early on in college when it was my go to "good beer." I’m curious to see what I think of it now.
3.0 A: Clear medium yellow color. Two fingers of dense frothy white head. Retention is good, but it does have some help coming from below. No lacing is left.
3.0 S: This is the only AAL that I’ve had in a long time that smells like there is some malt in it. Light sweet maltiness. Of course, there is a faint corniness to it, but it doesn’t smell that bad. No hops.
3.0 T: Much like the nose. Light, almost bready maltiness with hints of corn. No hops. Not as sweet as many other AAL, which is a huge plus.
3.0 M: Light body, but heavier than most. Carbonation level is reasonable. Not creamy, but smooth at least.
3.0 D: It might just be nostalgia, but I swear this isn’t as bad as some of the other AALs I’ve had lately. There’s no sickly corny sweetness that is prevalent in others.
Serving type: can

Drank several liters of this in Montreal. About as watery as beer can get. Not really much more to say. You don’t really want a review of this beer. It’s enough to know you should stay away.
