2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Spab (1118) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 12, 2010
341 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with thin tan head. Light sweet caramel malt and a hint of roastiness in the aroma. Taste is similar but very artificial tasting. A bit watery. Better than most Labatt offerings but pretty weak still.
1.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 kramer (3376) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 29, 2010
12 oz bottle. Pours a clear thin looking caramel brown body with a very small fizzy light brown head that completely vanished. The nose is pretty grainy with a hefty dose of sweet nuttiness, not unlike Nutella. Some light chocolate syrup and cola notes as well. Very sweet and adjunct laden flavor, it’s like weak coffee dosed with corn syrup. Grainy and thin with a cloying sticky finish. Fizzy forced carbonation. This was pretty horrible.
1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 TheJester (1230) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 25, 2010
341 mL bottle. Picked this one up at a grocery store just off the West Island of Montreal. I was thinking, ’this’ll probably suck, but it’s a Canadian classic and I really should try it.’ I don’t know why I listen to myself, sometimes. Who cares if it’s a classic? It’s just bad. Too much cloying, syrupy sweetness and not enough bitter roast. Does anyone still drink this stuff?
0.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20 godofsky (262) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 18, 2010
with the hockey game starting in 5 minutes, i had the choice of this stuff or blue dry. i chose the porter! pours a dark brown, with a head that lasted maybe 6 seconds. aroma is grassy, odd for a porter. taste is incredibly sweet and nauseating. drank 1 bottle out of the six pack, told my friend to use the rest for cooking!
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 sinkhole (258) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 4, 2010
Pours dark brown with an off-white tan head. Aroma is mild roasted malts and caramel. Tastes of very sweet sugars and some slight maltiness, a slight hop note at the end. Not a great porter but not the worst either, so a slightly above average end score.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 BückDich (5468) - McCall, Idaho, USA - OCT 5, 2009
Bottle: Pours a dark brown color, no where near black. The nose is metallic and malty with more of a dark amber malt than porter quality. Lacking the deep darkies. Sweet raison and molasses notes in the flavor and a distinct cheapness in the hop department. Sug!
