Strange pimply, eggshell white head; dark dark brown body. Somewhat transparent at the edges. Slight roasted coffee smell, light chocolatey malts. Some sweet raisin and dark grape. The taste is a dry, slightly musty, dark malt. Roasted coffee beans and chocolate. Too much cherry and raisin sweetness with not enough of a bitter balance. Thin and watery feel; smooth enough but not appropriate for style. Ashy at the swallow. It’s drinkable enough and a decent attempt; falls just a little short.

Pours deep brown into a shaker. Cola head quickly recedes to nothing. Smoke and chocolate aromas. Cocoa and sweet aspartame...drain pour.

12oz bottle purchased as part of a mixed 12 pack. Pours a nearly opaque body with a short-lived half inch of light tan head. Cocoa is the most noticeable part of the aroma with not much else going on. Cocoa characterizes the flavor as well, with just the slightest touches of molasses and caramel. On the lighter side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. An easy drinker with nothing offensive about it. Extremely pedestrian in almost every way. Just barely a ’starter porter’. I think I’d have liked it much better in the days I was in love with Guinness Draught, which the flavor is fairly similar to (perhaps a bit better than). Having said that, the flavors that are there are pleasing and there really isn’t anything offensive about this beer.

Pours a three finger light brown head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Dark brown color. Light-medium carbonation and light bodied. Sweet malty nose. Flavor is sweet caramel, hops in background. $1.40 for a 330ml bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.

11.2 oz bottle from Headbanger, my Labatt pimp. Labeled as John Labatt Signature Porter - I assume this is the same beer. pours dark brown with a big khaki head - pretty. Nose is... absent? A bit of cheap chocolate, maybe. Flavor is powdery chocolate, very mild and uninteresting.

11.2 oz bottle. Pouirs brown with amber hue and a head that was reminisant of a pale lager. Smells of dishrags and dirty water, with some roasted malt. Taste is alot better than the smell, some roasted malt, sugar, and some coffee. Mouthfeel like lager and not as soft as most porters, but not very bad, either.

RSRIZZO (1634) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - APR 29, 2009
(Bottle courtesy of Headbanger) - 11.5oz bottle labeled as John Labatt Signature Porter. Color is a near solid amber with mellow carbonation and a very thin head. Aroma is faint with a slight metallic scent. Taste is light and thin. Starting with a light body it goes down easy with a tiny crispness. Finish is a light roasted taste with a hint of sweet coffee. After taste is bland with the metallic from the aroma showing back up. This is a weak ass Porter, there is a little flavor in there but its just too weak.

Onslow (639) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - APR 17, 2009
Pour from a 11.5 oz bottle. The best thing about this brew is its appearance - nice and dark with a tan head that quickly fades. Unfortunately, the flavor and body are surprisingly light, considering its appearance. Aroma is faint malt with metallic under tones. Body is thin. Sweet roasted malt flavor at the start, very faint trace of hops in the finish. What’s here is good, but there just ain’t enough here.
