Originally rated December 2004. This Porter is totally old school for Labatt. They haven’t put a penny in marketing this brew since day one. The label and box are still brown and beige. Poured a very dark brown with ruby highlights. The head was fuzy and creamy and left a nice lace. The aroma was malty and had hints of coffee. The taste was quite different though. Not much coffee and chocolat. More of a fruity taste, quite sweet. Slight bitterness, with a good aftertaste. Very, very smooth.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2012 Very dark black with a very faint red tint. Fast disappearing thin tan head. Light chocolate roast and soft flowery smell. Soft carbonation, frothy soft thin body. Light roasted malt, coffee, stroing fruity raisin. Very smooth and sweet and not offensive. Thin and watery but tasty. Interesting and different

Special thank to Big D for this one. Overall, a good brew, not sure it is in the porter league. A bit thin and watery for a porter, but a great tasting dark larger at that. Good CO2, not complex for a porter, leaves with a clean crisp flavor.

Rich and sort of sweet in flavor. Aroma is sort of a chocolaty scent. Drinks more like a black lager than a porter. Finishes cleanly.

’’LABATS PORTER S6L4F3T6013 My twist off bottle label says John Labatt Signature Porter. Nice malty or carob aroma. Impressive pour for a cheap mysterious beer. Very dark with an initially creamy head which goes almost rocky after the pour! Some hints of alky but overall the taste is well behaved and friendly. Roasty porter with a slight labats background. Good carbonation for a porter. Not bad, perhaps there is some choco in the flavor too. A tad thin for a porter, just barely. Is not offensive, yet retains a nice dark beer attribute. Finish reminds me of many dark American lagers, well behaved, courteous and gentlemanlike with southern manners. ’’

Sweet coffee aroma and a hint of chocolate, deep brown, crimson at the edges, pours a tiny tan head. Sweet chocolate malt taste, a good bitter aftertaste. Bitter and sweet? Pretty good. Thanks to joey_capps for sharing this one year old!

2003 Vintage. Dark brown w/ swirling, frothy finger of beige foam. Sweet malty, milk chocolate nose w/ some fruity (cherry) notes. Creamy feel. Rich, rounded flavour of milk chocolate, licorice, & cherry liqueur. A decent beer from Labatt’s--who’da thunk it.
