1.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - NOV 4, 2004
Bottle. Wow, only 5 ratings? Wow, discontinued, now revived? Wow, WHY?? Starts out tolerable -- fizzy whitish head (though unstable), gray-black body. On second thought, not so appetizing-looking. Minimal chocolate-soapy nose isn’t awful....sickly-sweet saccharine-chocolate candy body is retch-inducing, though, as is the syrupy mouthfeel. Godawful, whoever thought to bring this back should never be allowed to even drink beer again.
1.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20 rampmaster (642) - Alden, New York, USA - DEC 14, 2008
Presentation: It was poured from a brown 11.5oz bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: The head is of average size, about one inch thick and it is tan in color. It fades out nearly as fast as it built up, leaving nothing on top and no lacing on the glass. The body is a very dark brown with deep crimson highlights.
Smell: Its aroma is very vague and light. There is just a very faint sweet malt with some very light metallic notes.
Taste/Mouth feel: The flavor has a very bland, somewhat bready malt with some light buttery notes and light metallic/grassy hops. The finish is quick and fairly clean with a slight buttery/mineraly fade. The body and texture are very light and watery with an almost flat carbonation.
Notes: I cant believe that you could brew a beer with this much depth in color yet be so thin on the flavor and body!!!

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2008 Brewed in Canada..... Pours a dark brown color with a super thin off white head. Aroma of corn and malts. Taste of malts and not much else. This is a terrible example of a porter, wartery, thin, lack of taste and smell. They should be ashamed for putting this product out on the market.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2004 Dark brown in colour. Aroma was slightly malty, some chocolate and caramel but still chemical. Flavour tasted fake to me - was caramel added to one of their other beers? - quite sweet as well. Very thin and watery body for a porter, flat cola like mouthfeel. The finish coated my mouth, quite sweet and quick. Very bad example.

with the hockey game starting in 5 minutes, i had the choice of this stuff or blue dry. i chose the porter! pours a dark brown, with a head that lasted maybe 6 seconds. aroma is grassy, odd for a porter. taste is incredibly sweet and nauseating. drank 1 bottle out of the six pack, told my friend to use the rest for cooking!

I had to pick it up. Couldn’t just leave it undisturbed as it should be...
Vegetable, grain aroma. Yay DMS.Dark brown with light tan fizzy carbonation - looks very much like a cola. Unfortunately the comparison ends there. This is much sweeter than any cola I’ve ever had and thinner also. Extremely unpalatable. Mild chalky roastiness drowning in pea soup with so much sugar added that perhaps you won’t notice it. Abort! Abort! The experiment has gone wrong. The sole reason this gets any points at all is because it’s not completely wretched - but it is darn close. Bottle (labelled simply Labatt Porter).
0.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20 lilannie (384) - State College, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 15, 2005
Aroma: old coffee, and dirty butt (or cat)
Appearance: dark brown, small white head, some lacing
Flavor: strong nutrasweet flavor--like diet soda, also some sugary-fruit flavors (like off-brand Dr. Pepper soda)
Palate: very carbonated, leaves a strange sugary coating behind the front teeth, nasty aftertaste of warm diet soda
Overall: this one is bad and gets worse...just pass

Bottle... It looks like cola; smells a lot like cola; tastes every bit as cloyingly sweet and fizzy as cola. Must be cola... diet cola. Hideous!

2005 bottle that I picked up in Montreal based on the Montreal crew’s recommendation. Weak, watery and transparent brown color, no head. Aroma: Wow, it’s moments like this that you live for. . .Pure vegetables, tin, dusty yeast and kind of like licking a big piece of cold metal. But the vegetables definitely take front seat. Cucumber, zuchhini and I don’t even know what else. This is like labbatt blue, only not even that good, with brown coloring added, and a little bit of table sugar added as well. Horrible veggies taste, zesty cardboard and more DMS than you would believe possible. Weak, syrupy/watery body. Should be renamed Labatt Vegetable. Cheers!
