3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks joet for sharing this bottle. Pour is murky and cola-colored with off-white halo. I get robusta coffee and brettanomyces aromatics. The distinct smoky flavor is like the like the smokiness from guajillo peppers (no heat). Coffee and cherry cola nose then deep smoke mid-palate, with hoppy mildly-bitter finish and some alcohol warmth. May be contaminated, or another ambitious offering?

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 ml bottle. Lot 440. BB 04/2014. From saveur-biere.com.
Black colour with a huge foamy light tan head. Came out of the bottle like a missile (a bit more liquid though). Smoke, burnt wood, tar and salty liquorice in the aroma. The flavour is pretty noire allright... Heavy smoke, some malt, maybe a hint of hops and mild sweetness... like salmiakkijäätelö (salty liquorice ice cream). Fizzy. Strong... in many ways but the 8% is rather nicely covered with the heavy smoke. The label is nice... very movie-esque.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. Deep coppery black colour, mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is leathery, smoked wet wood and some mild toffeeish notes. Flavour is toffee, smoked wood, peated and mild liquorice as well. Quite brutal brew. A bit too much carbonation, otherwise good.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle picked up in the Carmargue, Southern France, June 2013 consmed at home Sunday 27th October 2013 Pours dark brown actually I would suggest this was nigh on black, peaty on nose, some soft warm dark sugar decent stout. In the mouth the peaty germoline type flavour shows though to be fair it doesn’t intrude too much. Enjoying this its far easier drinking than an 8% beer should be. Tangy, but it is the medicinal quality that I find a slight challenge. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 33 cl. Pours black in color with a fluffy tan head. Smoked ham and bacon mostly in aroma. Just lovely. A bit of smokyness in taste, some smoked bacon too. Highly drinkable. A bit of chocolate and salty licorice too, but the gentle smokiness that stays throughout the entire time while enjoying this beer was a positive surprise. A real bargain actually, as it was only 1.59 € for a bottle. A bit of campfire and some smokiness mixed with subtle malty sweetness in finish. Enjoyed at seashore on a hot summerday.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, lot 440. Starts out of the bottle as soon as the crown is cracked. Pours a dark wooden brown, almost black with a thick and stylish, large, latte-colored head. Aroma is quite smoky, some smoked ham as well. You can detect whiffs of the yeast as well: Floweriness, yeasty funk of caramel marzipan and apricots, funky. Taste is semi-sweet with caramel and marzipan. Quite smoky and notes of wooden flavor are present as well. Palate is medium, not much carbonation.
