The revival of a unique English stout, This brew combines five malts with 10% real oatmeal and hops from the Northwest. A full-bodied roasty ale that goes down smooth and silky.

Sampled at HotShotz Indy tasting May 24, 2008 - Aroma is dark malts, oats, grease and chocolate. Pours light black with a small head and good lacing. Flavor matches aroma and is pretty mellow. This may be due to itís place in the tasting. Palate is creamy and smooth. Not bad and will probably rate higher when I get it on itís own.

12 oz bottle: Deep black core with tan highlights and a thick brown head. Notes were light but present, mostly nuts and caramel. The body was even and balanced with chocolate, nuts, caramel and coffee. The oatiness was missing though. A well done brew that didnít extend itself in any direction to warrant a second look. Solid but expected.

Moderate roasted bittersweet flavor with a Moderate bittersweet smooth finish of average duration. Solid beer.

Clean aroma, slight toasted malt on the nose. Very dark, with very very thin head. More bitterness than expected, lacked the smoothness/silkiness that Iíd expect with this style. Perhaps reducing some of the darker grains and adding more oat (malt) could balance this more. Generally bitter throughout with some dark chocolate in the finish. Overall it is a middle of the road oatmeal stout. .

Thanks to Bob, Michelle, and mostly my baby Jana for the 12th annual Indiana Microbrewers Festival today! On tap @ the fest. Nose of coffee, vanilla, oats, and flowers. The beer is black. The fully lasting brown creamy head leaves good lace. The brew is very well balanced, and has moderate acidity. The long finish is of espresso. The full soft body is creamy and the finish feels dry. Lafayette was definitely the biggest surprise today! I made a new friend.

When held up to natural light, one can see that this has a very dark brown body. Its tan head lingers none too long. Thereís a bunch of oats in the aroma, perhaps to be expected since the grain bill contains 10% oatmeal. This is complemented by lightly roasted malt and some bittersweet chocolate. Nice and smooth to drink, it tastes of roasted malts with a touch of barley, oats, and milk chocolate. A nutty/earthy bitterness enters midway though and lasts into the finish. Pretty decent.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Reminds me of those no-bake cookies chocolate and oats.
Appearance: Black.
Flavor: Creamy milk chocolate and some fruitiness. Not really that sweet, but not overly bitter either. About the sweetness level of a plain bowl of oatmeal.
Palate: Smooth and mellow.
Overall: Easy to drink. A decent Oatmeal Stout and better than most...

9/25/2007: Black Angus Oatmeal Stout is near black in color, opaque, and has no head. The aroma is a wonderful blend of smoky charred malt and chocolate. The flaovr is creamy and smooth and contains caramelized malt, some fruit in the mid-palate, chocholate, and some char. There is also a hint of meaty smoke. The body is medium and a touch thin on the palate. Overall this is a pretty solid stout.
