nickd717 (1263), Palo Alto, California, USA Nov 2, 2009 Bottle from Whole Foods Los Altos. American Pale Ale is sort of an unfair category for this - it’s more like an IPA. Pours clear golden with a two-finger cream-colored head and good lacing. Aroma is great, with citrusy and slightly floral hops, sweet malt, and tropical fruit. Flavor is sweet pale and caramel malt, balanced by grapefruit and orange hops as well as some pineapple. Some resin on the finish. A bit faded possibly from age but still tasty. Body is medium and there is quite a bit of lasting hop bitterness. Overall another solid Lagunitas offering. washoppinin (19), Florida, USA Oct 31, 2009 Expected more hops after having the Stoopid. Nonetheless, well balance dry hopped beer with nice citric notes. dkoonce (878), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Oct 29, 2009 Clear amber, with a frothy head. The aroma is impressive, with floral-pine dominating. Medium body, with a flat mouthfeel. The hops carry through, without much change from the aroma. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 26, 2009 Bottle ( 500ml ). Shared with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel. Clear amber-gold with an average fizzy-creamy off-white head. Slightly sweet aroma, but mostly it’s resin/pine bitterness, a bit leafy and dry, not too boozy - really hoppy. The taste follows - acidic resin/pine (slight lemon) bitterness, backed by the bare minimum of juicy malt. Average body, a little astringency, sweet and juicy up front, but dominated by a bitter lengthy finish - really, really good - I really like this style from Lagunitas, really pushes my taste buttons. fata2683 (831), Panama City, Florida, USA Oct 25, 2009 bottle, pours gold with a tall frothy white head. Nice piney hop aroma. Sweet malt and a very nice lemon rind/hoppy bitter finish. Dry as hell and I like it. mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Oct 19, 2009 Pours a gold copper color, with a medium frothy white head. Smells of rich citric hops and caramel malts as well. Very rich and crisp smelling. Very enticing. The flavor is much like the nose, very crisp and refreshing. Hops attack you right away and then subtle out a nit in the finish. Some grapefruit and malt balance it out a bit. Nice drinking APA, quite rich with hops and very flavorful. bblack99 (194), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Oct 10, 2009 Bomber from Truckee, CA...smuggled back to Missouri for tasting two weeks later!
Pours a bubbly orange-copper with a perfect dense off-white head. Sweet, fresh grapefruit aroma hints at the great clean hops within. Taste is matching in sweetness, with barely enough malt to balance it out and make it imminently drinkable. At only 6.3%, it’s not one of those sneaky DIPAs, but has a medium body to stand up to the sweet and bitter flavors. BückDich (4767), McCall, Idaho, USA Oct 8, 2009 Bottle: Pours an orange color with a lighter head. Bright citrus and cascade hops, some sappy grapefruit too. Decent light body with a bit of light caramel. Lots of hops in the tail, not too bitter though. Good IPA, not quite a pale though.
