3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 oz bottle via Hagen. Pours a clear copper with a huge off white head. Nose is strong with notes of toffee and mango. Taste is sweet iced tea, toffee, biscuits, pineapple, mango and some earthy piny hops. Body is full, this is a bit syrupy. Carbonation is medium. Pretty tasty but more a barleywine than an IIPA as it is very malt-driven.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at butcher and the boar. Wonderful bubblegummy, hop aroma. Dark gold body. Awesome lace. Tastes a little less strong than 8.7%. A little harsh after a big foot. But pretty good.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours a clear gold color. Thick head dissapate quickly and leaves substantial lacing. Very similar to sumpin sumpin. Lots of big piney notes and tropical fruits in aroma and taste. Definitely not too sweet with the malts; which I like. Finishes dry and crisp with a bit of alcohol.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap @ The Tap in Bloomington. Pours very clear golden amber. The aroma is wonderfully piney and crisp. The taste is a great balance of malt and hops with just the perfect amount of bitterness. Great brew.

Lagunitas makes lot of hoppy strong ales. A damned lot. I wonder sometimes why they donít just be like, "Hey, these are all great but letís pick the best one and just brew that. Maybe we could make a normal-ass brown ale or something w/o a ton of hops in the time it saves us." That is just not how Lagunitas thinks though and, love it or hate it, you cannot say their strategy hasnít been successful. In any event, this beer in particular could make a pretty good case for itself as Lagunitas best IIPA. It really doesnít taste terribly different that regular Sumpiní Sumpiní and itís a good bit stronger. Itís clear orange in color w/ a head of fine white bublbles and big patches of lace. It has a big, piny, resiny hop nose with some pineapple around the edges. This is really a hop dominated beer and maintains this by not falling into the trap a lot of IIPAs do by being all kinds of sweet too. This is rather dry, esp. for the strength, and what little sweetness their is highlights a softer mandarin orange citrus note than what you get in the nose. This is a full bodied beer but fine carbonation keeps it light across the palate. It finishes w/ a very firm but not harsh resinous bitterness and a lingering touch of honey sweetness on the tongue. Honestly, I get quite tired of brewers making tons of different beers seemingly for the sake of it but in Lagunitas case, I have a hard time faulting them for just doing what they do well over and over again. Some breweries might seem stuck in a rut if they did that but Lagunitas is just playing to its strengths.
