3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark golden color that pours with a large, white head. Aroma is piney with sweet, caramel background. Taste is very mellow for an IIPA, but is not bland by any means. Is a very solid beer, although not necessarily that memorable.

Pours with little head, very light color with more than average carbonation. Strong citrus undertones, does not bite you back. Great starter for a long night.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Joe Canals, pours copper with medium to large frothy white head. Aromas and taste of hops, caramel, sticky grapefruit and orange and more. This one destroyed our palate by the time we finished it. Nice beer but maybe a little too aggressive

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
11/28/2009 - You know a beer is going to be good when it has a sassy name. However, my impression with Lagunitasí Little Sumpiní Extra is that while it might be tailored for some palates, mine was left off the list. This pours with a thick, covering foam, gripping aggressively to the side of the glass. The body looks busy, bubbles zipping ever upwards in an amber and gold atmosphere. Hops, bubble gum and grapefruit dominate the aroma, offering refreshing citrus qualities and promising a quenching brew that offers plenty for the tongue to meditate on. Surprisingly, the flavor has very little residual sugars. It tastes like an emoty, naked hoppy flavor followed with slight touches of skunk, and then transforming into an almond nuttiness. Like jumping into the ocean, the first sip comes as a shock, but subsequent sips are better. Even so, the disparity between nose and taste makes me think Iím juggling two different beers, and my brain is rioting at the flip-flopping.

Hazy deep gold beer. Short lived frothy white head. Light palate, slightly soft. A creamy malt base provides a great base for lovely zesty hops - orange with dashes of lemon and grapefruit. Pine and grass notes lead to a minerally finish with hop spice. Another winner from Lagunitas.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Originally reviewed: 11/20/09. Bottle poured into my tulip glass. Pours a slightly hazy deep gold. Moderately aggressive pour yields a huge billowy ivory-colored head. Great retention. Tons of lace left behind after each sip. Beautiful. Tones of toffee, strong citrus, and hints of ginger. Great-smelling beer!
The mouth is moderately carbonated, almost bordering on crisp. As I drink this, it reminds me more of a standard IPA rather than a DIPA. Strong citrus flavors right off the bat. Moderate amount of bitterness in there; finishes lightly sweet with aspects of honey and butterscotch. This was a really great beer, it just needs to be re-styled a bit. I could drink this all night!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Old Review from 2009 - Extra pours a clear deep copper color. A nice big frothy head forms. Good retention and lacing throughout the glass. The smell on this brew is fantastic. A great amount of fruit. Citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit. Piney hops and a sweet malt character linger in the background. The fruit is the winner here and itís wonderful.
The taste is good but not as strong as the aroma. The grapefruit definitely sits up front here with all the other fruit right behind it. Piney and grassy hops follow next. A slight bit of alcohol comes through once in a while but itís balanced nicely with everything else. The mouthfeel is great too. Medium bodied and creamy. Just makes this DIPA even more drinkable. This brew is definitely a fruity blast. It doesnít kill your tastebuds with hops and alcohol like Hop Stoopid does (which I love also). Easily an DIPA I could have a few bombers of and be totally fine. A winner from Lagunitas.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From notes (10/27/09). Pours hazy bright amber with a big foamy white head that slowly dissipates to a foamy spotty film and leaves sticky lacing. Aroma was big pine grapefruit and caramel. Taste was bitter and sweet with awesome piny grapefruit and caramel malt. Palate was medium and slick and sticky all at the same time with a dry chalky finish. Really nice wish I could find/get another one!
