Morey (46) - Erie, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 12, 2012
INFORMATION: 12oz bottle with no freshness date. I know that Lagunitas usually puts a code on the bottle from which you can determine what day of the year that it was brewed, but there is no such code here. This bottle is from this Springís batch, so itís pretty fresh. 64 IBUs....7.5% ABV.

APPEARANCE: Pours a pale yellow-orange color with a good two fingers worth of off-white colored head floating on top. Plenty of carbonation bubbles visible within the glass. Pretty good clarity for a wheat beer. Impressive lacing sticking to the inside of the glass with each sip.

NOSE: Orange, lemon, mango, juicy fruit gum, musk melon! This beer is fruiTy with a capital T! Behind the wall of citrus lies subtle hints of this being a wheat beer.

TASTE: Good light wheat flavor up front, but itís short lived. Fruity flavors come rushing in just as the aroma suggest. Thereís a touch of hop bitterness towards the middle, but this beer is big on the citrus, and not so much on the bitterness. The flavor of the wheat shows itself again towards the back end. Soft fruity finish begs for you to take another sip.

MOUTHFEEL: Medium bodied with a soft carbonation.

OVERALL: The best of the best where wheat beers are concerned.

Moreyís Bottom Line: The first time that I had this, I was floored. Iíve had it several times since, and nothingís changed. If you see this, by all means....grab a six pack!

Draft at Old Forge, Lanesboro, MA. APPEARANCE - darkish golden color. Ice white head and modest bubbling to keep it going. NOSE - nice backbone of light hoppynscent - west style, what else? Itís so light, was actually overpowered by a vanilla scent from the candle in front of me at the bar. Very mellow. FLAVOR - malt forward, hop backbone. Very nice combination.

12 oz bottle. Amber-golden pour with a medium fizzy off white head. Aroma of citrus, yeast and wheat. Easy drinking with a slight hoppy finish.

Orange juice and berries from the hops in the aroma. A little sulfur as it warms. Thinner body than Iíd like from such a good aroma.

Bottle to shaker glass. Pours slightly hazy golden, two finger off white frothy head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma of pine, stone fruit and light citrus. Taste is nicely balanced tart like bitterness and earthy sweetness. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, silky mouth feel. Finishes dry. Tasting notes of stone peaches, wheat, grass, mango, lemon zest and light spruce. Iím not a fan of wheat beers per say, but this IPA is awesome! Complex and different, I will have another!

Draft. Bright, distinct grapefruit aroma. Very hoppy IPA, slightly bitter finish. Nice example of a modern, high ABV IPA.

Pours a slightly hazy amber from a bottle. Aroma of grapefruit, flavor the same but with some mango, nice bright clean refreshing bittersweet IPA. Very good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

piękny aromat mango, papai, brzoskwini. Super owocowy. W tle leśny, trawiasty. Piwo złote, niemal klarowne. Kiepska piana. W smaku raczej wytrawne, słodyczy bardzo niewiele. W smaku troche naftowo, jakby Nelson Sauvin albo Sorachi Ace. Poza tym trawa i owoce. Świetne w smaku. W posmaku goryczka, wyraźna, owocowa. Super pijalne. Świetne piwo

Bottle. Dark golden, restrained carbonation, bif egghell coloured creamy head. Fresh maracuja hop aroma. Medium light body, dry grassy sparkly on the palate. Intense yet pleasant pine bitterness, tropical, citric hop aromatics. Pine and grass aftertaste - quite hoppy, no cloying aftertaste though. Slow lawnmower beer.

Deep gold, clear, no lacing, tall, stable head. Intense nose, yeasty. Full body, very flavorful, smooth texture, well carbonated, fitting alcohol heat, long palate. Crisp, off-dry, gentle bitterness. Fruity, orangey, yeasty. Very well balanced and enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I am definitely not a hop head, preferring more balance in my brews, but the particularly floral characteristics of this aleís hoppiness intrigues even me. As opposed to smells of boiled pine cones and grapefruit rinds, the aromas presented here really come across as fresh hop flowers. I find the flavors a bit overdone on the bitterness side of things so this isnít a beer that Iíd always want to have on hand, but when I get an itch for hops this one scratches it.
