Another Big Sister of the Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale…. Loads of Malted Wheat for a Curious Malt Foundation and a Light Color, But Our Belgian Yeast Leaves a Huge Flavor and Complexishness.

A- Pours a dark golden color with a nice, tight 1.5 finger head that sticks around for a while. S- Lots of hops with hints of belgian yeast. T- Light fruits, peach, apricot hints of spice with a strong and assertive hop backbone and alcohol on the finish. M- Medium viscosity and carbonation. D- Very tasty beer. Easy to drink and much hoppier than expected.

Pours a clear pale gold with a frothy white head that leaves tons of lace. Aroma of pine, bubblegum, caramel, sweet pale malts and honey. Taste is a great complexity of spicy Belgian yeast phenols, pepper, alcohol pine, resin, grapefruit and a nice smooth bitterness through with a semi dry finish. Nice and complex while holding a great balance... Could use a bit more complexity on the nose bit otherwise this is a great beer.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance has a golden amber/maybe closer to a yellow colored body, one finger white foamy head that dissipates and leaves a nice spider web speckled faded looking lacing, light carbonation is seen rising. The smell is slightly sour and/or tart mango/lemon fruitiness up front, hops showing some pizazz. The taste is basically the same adding a bitterness from the hops that seem to be showing a bit more, lemony aftertaste, quick dry finish. The palate sits light on the body, pretty sessionable (perhaps poundable to some). Carbonation is somewhat sharp which is good for the style and I say good to me. Overall, I say this is a good Belgian IPA by style that I would have again. Kudos to Lagunitas for a style that I don’t normally go after too much.

Boulevard tulip glass draft at The Belfry in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is mostly clear golden with no head, this was a VERY full pour. The aroma is soft hay, honey hop sweetness and a decent blast of floral Belgian yeast. The taste is mostly about the floral spicy Belgian yeast, though honey sweetness breaks through significantly as the beer warms. The palate is medium bodied, soft carbonation and a sticky sweet aftertaste. Didn’t totally work for me.

12oz bottle. Nice looking standard golden pour with a stable head and medium lacing. Tangy, strong aroma, very appetizing, I love the esters the belgian yeast gives it. It’s not a straight copy of a belgian style, it’s got a hoppy backbone. Really enjoyed this one!

Small bottle. Hazy deep gold, big white head. Nose is pine, bubblegum, flavour also has orange, caramel, as well as smooth alcohol. I dunno about these Belgian IPAs, they’re good when light and dry, the heavy sweet ones with pine resin always seem like nothing more than an "interesting" experiment to me. Can only blame myself for continuing to buy them.
