4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a slightly hazy orange/amber with moderate off-white head, mostly diminishing. Considerable lacing lingers throughout. The aroma is awesome. Another rater mentioned it as a "hoppy tripel" - I think that is very accurate. A wonderful, full-flavored and well-balanced beer. Citrus on the nose, smooth in the middle and a good dryness lingering at the end. A "special ale" by Lagunitas? You bet - I think it is awesome. Wish I had purchased more than one 22 oz. bottle. Highly recommended.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Tedís Most Best in Athens, GA. This poured reddish into a shaker, exhibiting the work that the Belgian-ish yeast had done on the wheat-laced malts of the Sumpin Sumpin franchise. Aromas and flavors paralleled a conventional ipa of evergreen and citrus, but the addition of a funky yeast altered these flavors slightly. You get tree bark rather than pine, and tangerine instead of grapefruit. Overall, I prefer a more conventional ipa, but this is a drinkable beer and a welcome departure from the many Lagunitas hop bombs that taste quite a bit like one another.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Taken from old notes. Sweet and sour nose after a deep orange pour. Taste shows nice bitter with some yeastiness on the bitter finish. Slightly boozy.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber bottle. Pours a dark yellow colour with a thick, lasting white head, lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops and yeast, some pine. Tastes hoppy; citrus, pine, lemon zest notes - warms to a earthy malt sweetness. Finishes with a grassy tastes. Lots of hops here; probably one of the most hopped ales Iíve had that was made with belgian yeast. Very good, a definite winner!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice and bitter with a good yeast character. Iím missing the spiciness i usually associate with belgian strong ales, but itís good. Youíll find lots of piney aroma punctuated by a sweet malt underbelly. The taste is fruity, malty, with a hoppy punch. I really like how the fizzy gives a little bite. Quite good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a golden brown with a thick white head and lots of lacing. Thick, floral hop aroma. Flavor is not what I expected. Huge, floral and citrus hop kick with a strong, banana yeast flavor as well. Unusual but delicious. Well done Lagunitas.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 8, 2011 Excellent aroma. Strong pineapple, mango, berries. More than the typical citrus. Appearance is a crystal clear light copper color. 1 finger thick white head that lingers nicely. Taste is not as enjoyable as aroma. Bittersweet grapefruit, mango. Grapefruit bitterness lingers. Whatever subtle complexities the Belgian yeast may be creating are completely overpowered by the 72.51 IBUís. Palate is medium and crisp. Overall a nice beer. Not as nice as regular Sumpin IMO. It seems the belgian yeast has deleted the exciting hops brightness that is present in the original and the bitterness is too much for any kind of real belgian complexity to come through.. Still a nice beer though.

Characteristics of a golden strong, tripel, saison, and ipa are all presented on a silky smooth medium weight body, a very solid beer for an excellent price
A tall, frothy, white heads sits atop a slightly hazed amber body, carbonation initially decorates the glass with a few streamers, a few large spots and arcing peninsulas of lace hang on throughout the drink
Flowers, hay, and grass open the show with citrus, apple, and white pepper building over doughy honey biscuit on a silky smooth medium body with appropriate carbonation drying out and echoing all the aromas and flavors with pronounced white pepper and grass; as this warms, juicy, tropical hop notes gain traction and contrast with the Belgian yeast characteristics, harmony is finally restored during the final sips around 60ļ
