3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Notes from 12/30/2010
22 oz. bottle from Steve’s Liquor in Madison
Ar: Big peach/apricot nose. Belgian yeast lends great fruity character here. A bit of funky yeastyness going on as it warms up a bit.
Ap: Apricot hue, great lace, and a small head. A bit hazy.
T: Lightly sweet malt, but it’s dominated by a great apricot jam note.
P: A bit sticky. Mild carbonation.
O: Very nice. A bit one-dimensional, but still excellent.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
AROMA: earthy but soft and organic, malt and fruits, a little bit of wheat, aromatic - not a Belgian but it is reminiscent, yeasty esters and phenols (haybale), fleshy stone fruits (pears and peaches and apricots), while this is OK for an American version but it will not meet expectations for a real Belgian (give it a 9 for an American Belgian but not for a Belgian)
APPEARANCE: light yellowish-brown, small bubbles continue for sometime, Belgian strong Ale yes, almost a golden ale;
TASTE: rich caramelised malts but malty sweetness is not overstated, honey, caramel, candy corn;
PALATE: medium to full body, slightly sticky and creamy, mild carbonation, lingering finish;
OVERALL: It works. It is not a Belgian SA but it is an excellent attempt at a very high standard of excellence.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours golden, slightly hazy. Head is fairly white and thin. Both large and small carbonation. Nose has hoppy fresh notes but that’s about all. Taste is hoppy, bready yeasty. Pretty much tastes like it’s avertised. An ale with a few wheat notes and bretty from the yeast strain. Slightly more complex than a pale ale. Slight alcohol notes. Slightly lacking in the flavor depth and a little on the thin side. Fairly strong at 8.8%. Nice well made summery ale.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours slightly hazy gold with white head. Aroma is yeast and malted wheat. Belcian yeast flavors of bananna and clove. Lots of grassy bitterness from the hops. A little bit of citrus in there to. More bitter than i expected. Pretty good.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Characteristics of a golden strong, tripel, saison, and ipa are all presented on a silky smooth medium weight body, a very solid beer for an excellent price
A tall, frothy, white heads sits atop a slightly hazed amber body, carbonation initially decorates the glass with a few streamers, a few large spots and arcing peninsulas of lace hang on throughout the drink
Flowers, hay, and grass open the show with citrus, apple, and white pepper building over doughy honey biscuit on a silky smooth medium body with appropriate carbonation drying out and echoing all the aromas and flavors with pronounced white pepper and grass; as this warms, juicy, tropical hop notes gain traction and contrast with the Belgian yeast characteristics, harmony is finally restored during the final sips around 60º

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deceiving pale color packs a big hoppy smackdown. Small headed, bubbles rising in perfect vertical order, it looks like a nice cognac. Sweet and bitter at the same time. Clove, hops, grapefruit, peach flavors. Delicious combination. Sour on the afterbite. Delightful brew! Love what Lagunitas has been putting out.

very drinkable for the abv. nice sweetness, a little too candy-ish but not overwhelming. somewhat medicinal, but good. reminds me of green flash rayon vert but a little sweeter. nice pillowy head on this one. a winner, but not as complex or intriguing as it could be. still pretty tasty and fun

pours a nice cloudy gold color. Nose is tight revealing only a hint of hops. Flavors of yeast and hops. Also a nice malt backbone. Great beer.

another fine specimen in the belgian ipa fad. Very bright gold but with unfiltered particles of yeast. A litte more Belgian than IPA where the Flying Dog raging bitch is a bit more IPA and less belgian. Both are extremely enjoyable.
