Another Big Sister of the Little Sumpiní Sumpiní AleÖ. Loads of Malted Wheat for a Curious Malt Foundation and a Light Color, But Our Belgian Yeast Leaves a Huge Flavor and Complexishness.

22 oz. bottle. Just wrapped up making a big pot of chili, which for me takes as long as a brew day. And hereís this, which I found at the new Lemon Tree across the tracks from me Thursday! Pours a clean bright pilsener color with a touch of rose, and a small but stately procession of bubbles, to an angel-food cake type head. Smell brings up a lot of complexity, some Amarillo hop, I thought, and spicy Belgian yeast at work (the label says Westmalle: boy, havenít one in a while). Some pepper, coriander, a bit of horse blanket, all very enticing. Taste is, well, sublime. Hard to describe, hard to compare it to any beer I remember: itís its own unique entity. Again, big American hops to the fore, but plenty of spiciness that may be the yeast, may be some English and German hops to boot, Just no added spices, itís all in the chemistry. Sticky malts bear glad tidings of warm alcohol (my label says 8.85% to0, not 7.8%). Maybe itís just my mood, relaxing after a busy day of chili cooking and writing, or my cold clearing up so I can appreciate beer again, but this one hits the spot absolutely. My ratings on Lagunitas beers run a wide range, but I like the chances they take when it results in something fab like this!

On tap at Bleachers Taproom inside Whole Foods. The pour is a pretty clear orangey gold with a thin white head and some great lace. The aroma is a little malty with a light belgian yeast character to it. There is a little hop at the end, and it doesn't strike me as a belgian. The flavor is more belgian. There is a strong malt and funkiness to it from the yeast, but it remains a bit bitter and solid. The mouth feel is a touch light, but it is well carbonated with a lingeringly malty aftertaste and a little funk. Not too bad ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a clean white head. Aromas of musty yeast, muted hop presence. Touch of funk underneath. A little stale. Hops have been lost. Decent, not Mind blowing. Waxed.

Iím not a big Belgian strong ale fan, but this is enjoyable. Lots of carbonation, the yeast is relatively mild. I get lemon and clove along with the mild sourness. Nice combo with the hops bitterness. The ABV isnít as apparent as I expected. Pretty tasty.

Pours a yellow orange color with a citrus pineapple aroma. Taste is clean, with a malt backbone. Mild yeast flavor that leaves a minor bitter aftertaste coupled with alcohol.

Tap: Golden-straw color, super hazy, completely opaque with a big, fluffy white head adorned on top. Long lasting. Floral hoppage on the nose, nice balance of bitter leaves, grass, pine, citrus rind, & a touch of baked biscuits. Light yeast. Flavor also starts very floral-like with a big pine character. The hops take a split between tropical & citric as well, introducing pineapple, grapefruit, mango, & pear. Mild phenol character with a heavily bready, slightly gummy, & modestly spicy yeast finish. Hint of clove, cardamom, finishing with orange rind & pine sap. Tasty stuff.

Taster at Lagunitas. Pours clear amber with a generous white head. Aroma is light hops, sweet malts, and hints of ripe fruit and barnyard. Flavour is well balanced malts and hops with notes of barnyard yeast and spices. Medium body.

Completely clear peach and light copper coloured body with a thin, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pure brett, light wheat, grain, alcohol, vinegar and a good fresh herb scent - nice and pungent. Medium-bodied; Effervescent quality up front with a potent yeast kick with the brett very noticeable and a pungent bitterness from herbs and grass also at the end. Aftertaste shows a big alcohol kick (more than I expected) and a big fresh malt and hop character with more brett and yeast notes than anything else, but in a good way. Overall, a very well-crafted beer with tons of character, but perhaps a touch too deep and bitter, along with a nice brett and yeast flavour throughout. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from Lebanese Taverna Market in Arlington, Virginia on 07-January-2015 sampled at home in Washington on 01-February-2015 - Thanks Kev!
