4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
22 oz. bottle. Just wrapped up making a big pot of chili, which for me takes as long as a brew day. And here’s this, which I found at the new Lemon Tree across the tracks from me Thursday! Pours a clean bright pilsener color with a touch of rose, and a small but stately procession of bubbles, to an angel-food cake type head. Smell brings up a lot of complexity, some Amarillo hop, I thought, and spicy Belgian yeast at work (the label says Westmalle: boy, haven’t one in a while). Some pepper, coriander, a bit of horse blanket, all very enticing. Taste is, well, sublime. Hard to describe, hard to compare it to any beer I remember: it’s its own unique entity. Again, big American hops to the fore, but plenty of spiciness that may be the yeast, may be some English and German hops to boot, Just no added spices, it’s all in the chemistry. Sticky malts bear glad tidings of warm alcohol (my label says 8.85% to0, not 7.8%). Maybe it’s just my mood, relaxing after a busy day of chili cooking and writing, or my cold clearing up so I can appreciate beer again, but this one hits the spot absolutely. My ratings on Lagunitas beers run a wide range, but I like the chances they take when it results in something fab like this!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wonderful aroma of little apricot, caramel and orange peel. Foam is great at pouring, but quickly falls into a flimsy creamy foam layer on top. It is probably due to the high alcohol strength that foam is not so violent. It is launched as a strong ale. Fruit balance is excellent and it is well to a little heavy caramel. The fruit is again orange peel and apricot, perhaps also a little peach. I think it is close to an English barley wine, because just British barley wines often packs taste of alcohol into good fruity malt tones and caramel, while the American barley wines are much more alcohol dominated and often much stronger.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Taze. Nice nose with mix of spicy-herbal fresh hops and light wildish funk. Dry. Golden amber with light haze, topped with white fluffy creamy lacing head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts and stays dry with carbonic fizz. Big hop flavor but not too bitter. Nice wild funky notes with big bitter finish and smooth after. Tasty.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle to a teku showing light amber and moderate filtration with sparse white foam.
The nose shows a mix of mango with hints of bananas and intermittent sweet bread/yeast notes.
The palate is full bodied with even carbonation but not a lot on the palate. A slight bitterness at the end reminiscent of a lager and sharp notes of an IPA. Spicy notes at the end on the palate but in terms of the first impression, there isn’t a lot going on here.

Bottle into tulip glass. Pours a clear golden colour with small white head. Aroma is sweet and fruity. Taste is sweet with a little sourness not getting much bitterness for 72 ibu’s. This is a truly wild brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Bleachers Taproom inside Whole Foods. The pour is a pretty clear orangey gold with a thin white head and some great lace. The aroma is a little malty with a light belgian yeast character to it. There is a little hop at the end, and it doesn't strike me as a belgian. The flavor is more belgian. There is a strong malt and funkiness to it from the yeast, but it remains a bit bitter and solid. The mouth feel is a touch light, but it is well carbonated with a lingeringly malty aftertaste and a little funk. Not too bad

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a clean white head. Aromas of musty yeast, muted hop presence. Touch of funk underneath. A little stale. Hops have been lost. Decent, not
Mind blowing. Waxed.
