4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
The beer is tangerine orange color with a deep cream-colored head. Excelllent lacing and retention. The bear is slightly cloudy.
The aroma is nicely hoppy; with a orange peel dominating. The yeast and malt aromas are muted with the yeast slightly more noticeable than the malt. A hint of clove adds some complexity to the hop character.
The beer is lightly sweet with an ample citrusy hop fruitiness up front. But the complexity of this beer is a wonder. As the palate settles, I find juicy fruit bubble gum and bread. The finish has just a hint of clove and other spices.
Body is bordering on heavy. Texture is sticky and oily.
This beer is immensely drinkable. The complexity of the finish brings me back to the glass again and again. Although the texture is substantial, it is in no way overbearing. The beer reminds me of the Stone Begi-Calique with a reduced yeast profile. I liked that beer quite a bit as well, if I remember correctly. This beer is excellent. It combines two of my favorite styles: American IPA and Strong Belgian ales. Good job Lagunitas.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
I’m not a big Belgian strong ale fan, but this is enjoyable. Lots of carbonation, the yeast is relatively mild. I get lemon and clove along with the mild sourness. Nice combo with the hops bitterness. The ABV isn’t as apparent as I expected. Pretty tasty.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a yellow orange color with a citrus pineapple aroma. Taste is clean, with a malt backbone. Mild yeast flavor that leaves a minor bitter aftertaste coupled with alcohol.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap: Golden-straw color, super hazy, completely opaque with a big, fluffy white head adorned on top. Long lasting. Floral hoppage on the nose, nice balance of bitter leaves, grass, pine, citrus rind, & a touch of baked biscuits. Light yeast. Flavor also starts very floral-like with a big pine character. The hops take a split between tropical & citric as well, introducing pineapple, grapefruit, mango, & pear. Mild phenol character with a heavily bready, slightly gummy, & modestly spicy yeast finish. Hint of clove, cardamom, finishing with orange rind & pine sap. Tasty stuff.

Taster at Lagunitas. Pours clear amber with a generous white head. Aroma is light hops, sweet malts, and hints of ripe fruit and barnyard. Flavour is well balanced malts and hops with notes of barnyard yeast and spices. Medium body.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Completely clear peach and light copper coloured body with a thin, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pure brett, light wheat, grain, alcohol, vinegar and a good fresh herb scent - nice and pungent. Medium-bodied; Effervescent quality up front with a potent yeast kick with the brett very noticeable and a pungent bitterness from herbs and grass also at the end. Aftertaste shows a big alcohol kick (more than I expected) and a big fresh malt and hop character with more brett and yeast notes than anything else, but in a good way. Overall, a very well-crafted beer with tons of character, but perhaps a touch too deep and bitter, along with a nice brett and yeast flavour throughout. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from Lebanese Taverna Market in Arlington, Virginia on 07-January-2015 sampled at home in Washington on 01-February-2015 - Thanks Kev!

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a clear, classic golden with a large, smooth, fluffy, white head, in spite of a careful pour. Light notes of hop resin are dominated by earthy Belgian aromas. Healthy, rich, soft mouthfeel. Well-blended malt sweetness, barnyard overtones, and tartness.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap @ Lagunitas Petaluma. Pours hazy orange amber with lacy white head. Aroma is mild caramel malt, light hops, and sweet lightly funky Belgian yeast notes. Taste is similar - here the Belgian yeast flavor dominates fairly substantial malt and hops. Finishes dry and clean. Tastes well smaller than ~9%. Interesting beer, and good, but honestly probably not an improvement on straight Lil’ Sumpin.
